Waiting for an important letter which is dependent on what time I receive it today. So go for a stroll to see if postie is in area. There is he is in the next street changing some girl's tyre for her-I know this is not his car and ours is his last street. He then proceeds to chat to this girl for about 10 minutes, then another woman for about 5 minutes.

I am peed off about this. AIBU?

How do you know he wasn't on a break, did you ask him?

D0oinMeCleanin · 29/11/2013 15:44

In fairness we were taught that Hitler had good intentions, although that was by a former Nazi, who although now heartily disagrees with his actions was so indocrinated by the regime, that although she knows his actions were evil and were that of a mad man, still cannot bring herself to think totally badly of him.

She was told that he wanted a world without war and suffering and the only way he could see this happening was to have one race and one religion.

Maybe OP has German or Slovenian family?

OP I would just give up, you are not winning any friends here. YWNU to want your letter quickly, but Postie didn't know that you were in a hurry. Most people who need something important, urgently use recorded delivery.

Nomorepat · 29/11/2013 15:49

Yeah, maybe you're right D0oinMeCleanin, some can't even agree with the obviously correct fact that had postie injured himself and his boss found out that it wasn't because of his actual job but because of changing a tyre then he would be in trouble.

Yes, maybe I am wrong about the good deed business, but I'm definitely right about that having experienced a close friend not get paid because they were injured doing something they should most definitely not be doing at work.

Oh this is a classic and like Mumsnet of old where I'm genuinely laughing out loud.
Hitler had good intentions and stalking the postman.
It couldn't get any better.Grin

FracturedViewOfLife · 29/11/2013 15:51

But it didn't happen did it?

eofa1 · 29/11/2013 15:52

OMFG. Now the poor old postie is like Hitler with his good intentions gone bad. OP, get a fucking grip. Seriously.

fluffaduck · 29/11/2013 15:52

Norm
He did not injure himself!!
You got your letter.
Your argument is invalid!

Gileswithachainsaw · 29/11/2013 15:52

Don't forget the "paying his wages" bit. That was classic :o

Binkyridesagain · 29/11/2013 15:52

How are you managing to type? your hands must be pretty full now with all the straws your clutching.

fluffaduck · 29/11/2013 15:53

You are not right.
You have never been right.
In fact OP you are all kinds of wrong!

BarfaStewart · 29/11/2013 15:54

its an irrelevant argument. He DIDNT injure himself. And I'm sure Royal Mail would be impressed by a community-minded worker tbh.

BarfaStewart · 29/11/2013 15:56

I may tweet RM to ask what their stance is even if the OP still wouldn't accept she is wrong

ArbitraryUsername · 29/11/2013 15:58

OP: that's not a fact; that, there is wild speculation. It's a good idea to learn the difference.

reelingintheyears · 29/11/2013 16:00

Bet my Postman has better legs than yours.

He's still in his shorts and I so would.

Binkyridesagain · 29/11/2013 16:01

Arbitrary its not wild speculation, it happened to a friend, so it must be fact. All employers act like this towards their staff. OP said so!

BarfaStewart · 29/11/2013 16:01

EauRouge · 29/11/2013 16:01

Poor Adolf the postman, he tries to help the local community and then he gets stalked by people who explode if their post is 20 minutes later than usual. :(

reelingintheyears · 29/11/2013 16:03

I was never taught that Herr Hitler had good intentions.

I was taught that he was a proper wrong 'un and we saw him orf.

ShatnersBassoon · 29/11/2013 16:03

My postman does have an unusually high-kicking, straight-legged, rhythmic gait actually.

The second part might have been dubious evidence to fuel the speculation, but the first part was definitely wild speculation. I quote: 'the obviously correct fact that had postie injured himself and his boss found out that it wasn't because of his actual job but because of changing a tyre then he would be in trouble.'

Grammatically (and logically) 'the obviously correct fact that had such and such nonsense happened then such and such consequence would have followed' makes absolutely no sense.

But, given that the OP is willing to make the most ridiculous comparisons, ignoring all the peculiarities of different situations, and adamantly defending them as comparisons and she's utterly determined to redefine the paved with good intentions cliche, I shouldn't be surprised.

My Gran is Yugoslavian, Reeling. We all know that a few a Brandies too many and the mention of WW2 or politics and it's time to leave the pub now Grin
