AIBU to not attend the school Christmas Fair?

I've sold all the raffle tickets I was asked to sell and do plenty to help the school out through my line of work saving them money all through the year. I hate school fairs, too busy, too hot, paying to enter to look at over priced crafty stuff that I never buy anyway.

AIBU to not want to go? DD and other parent seem to think I am.

I shan't be going. It tends to fall on the weekend surrounding my (much younger who is still a child) sisters birthday who lives over 100 miles away, so we are always visiting for her birthday get together instead which DS much prefers as he adores his Auntie.

I don't feel guilty at all. We barely get to see family and I know where I would much rather be this weekend (and I did double check with DS again before arranging plans. He even wants to miss after school club so we can leave earlier!)

But...if your DD wants to go, I would suck it up and go for an hour tops then leave.

I don't want to go either I get mega claustrophobic but the youngling is counting the days.

If I can't find somebody else to take him then ill just have to suck it up. Sometimes you have too.

I don't really class PTA as 'vital funds' when you look at real kids in poverty, towns flattened in disasters, horrible illnesses etc. PTA funds are a nice extra - climbing frame or cheaper school trip. So happy to bung them a few quid now and then but they will never be a really deserving cause IMO.

Pogosticks · 28/11/2013 09:58

You don't see many Dads sucking it up though, it's always mothers who seem to go to things out of guilt...

I've never been to the Xmas fair at DD's school for various reasons. DD doesn't mind though, and I always go to the summer one so to me, that's enough.

Straitjacket · 28/11/2013 10:17

Pogo if we were going to be here for the fair, it wouldn't just be me sucking it up. It would be DP too.

In fact, he would probably be fine with going, and dragging me out of bed and down the road. He is quite good with things like that, when I am shite!

YABU - but I love school Christmas Fairs. I'm going to DS's primary school fair next week even though he's now at secondary school.

HeadlessHeadmistress · 28/11/2013 10:19

I'm not going for similar reason, and I'm heavily pregnant so scared I'll faint if it's too hot and crowded.

I'm sending DH with DD so she doesn't miss out, and because she's really excited and wants to see Father Christmas.

YANBU to not enjoy it but if your DD wants to go then I think you should. Decide how much you want to spend then give that to your DD so she can budget it. If you really can't afford to spend anything I still think your DD would enjoy looking around.
