to think the school is wrong

TO change the date of the xmas production because it clashes with a club xmas party.
I have already changed my shift pattern so I can be there and dd is now going to miss swimming.
Plus most nights that week have parties on. So now another se of children are going to miss out on their party to accomodate others.
The cynic in me thinks that the clashing party is an party that children of staff attend.

I am confused by your post. I assume that the club in question is an after school club party an prehaps a lot of the children want to do both.

Some schools are no longer doing christmas productions. Sad

SantanaLopez · 27/11/2013 17:13

I don't quite understand?

Is it after school club?

I would guess that they both need the hall, although I agree it is very short notice now.

Lilacroses · 27/11/2013 17:15

Oh no, that is frustrating for you but also probably for them if they don't have an alternative venue.

BackforGood · 27/11/2013 17:21

It's frustrating if dates get changed at short notice, but I don't understand quite what's happened here. What's the club ? Are they using the school hall? Who has booked what? What's the clash ? etc.

meditrina · 27/11/2013 17:35

There are probably more children in the production than in the club, so if one has to shift it should be the club.

And date, once publicised, should be adhered to - especially things
I've productions because of course parents will make arrangements to be there and these cannot always be changed at short notice.

The school really needs a termly planning meeting to minimise the number of clashes. And the providers of clubs etc should be told about them in good time too, so they can play their part in avoiding difficulties too.

DejaVuAllOverAgain · 27/11/2013 18:04

I've read it about 3 times and think I might have got it.

I read it as the date of the xmas production (play?) has been changed because it clashes with a club xmas party. The OP has already changed her shift pattern to be able to make the production and her dd would be missing swimming. The cynical part of her thinks it's the production that is being moved, not the party, because some of the children at the party are children of staff.

Am I right OP Confused

WooWooOwl · 27/11/2013 18:05

What's the club?

prettywoman78 · 27/11/2013 18:24

Didn't want to give too much info. It is not a school after school club. It is a club like cubs not connected with the school.

Wolfiefan · 27/11/2013 18:28

Outside group using the school out of hours will hire the school and pay for the privilege. If they have booked the space then that is it I'm afraid. I guess someone messed up when deciding the dates to put the production on. I don't think it is about the children of staff.

Sirzy · 27/11/2013 18:32

If a lot of children attend the club then it makes sense to change it otherwise they may have a lot who can't attend

prettywoman78 · 27/11/2013 18:32

Oops namechange fail. Not sure if party is taking place at school. Will speak to dds teacher tomorrow.I guess that could explain it. Still bad planning though.

prettywoman78 · 27/11/2013 18:35

Lots of children attend clubs on the monday too though. I know both beavers and cubs run on that night too and they have parties too.

jacks365 · 27/11/2013 18:41

Our local school avoids doing anything that clashes with cubs/beavers/ Brownies etc because the organisations are run on the whole by teachers and the teachers wouldn't put the school first out of hours

WooWooOwl · 27/11/2013 18:44

If lots of the children and parents will want to go to the club, then it makes sense for school to change the date. Otherwise they will have half their cast missing.

It's more important for them to accommodate children rather than the very small number of parents that are likely to work in the evening.

prettywoman78 · 27/11/2013 18:55

That is the point though. Clubs run every evening in that age group in the area. Except possibly friday. So why change to keep some children happy bjt upset a new group in the process. Plus cause inconvenience to parents who expect something to be on the evening stated in the diary.

WooWooOwl · 27/11/2013 19:02

You really need to ask the person/people that made the decision to change the date.

They are the ones that will have all the correct information that the decision was based on, the rest of us can only speculate.

Maybe it's a club that affects the children with the leading parts, or the person that's playing the piano.

If its a club that affects a lot of staff, then I can understand them changing the date. Staff aren't contractually obliged to be around for nativity plays or Christmas concerts in the evening, they give up their own free time to do it so that most parents can attend. Otherwise they'd do it during the school day when they are going to be at work anyway.

I'd be pissed off about the late notice of a change of date too though. Hopefully they will learn from the mistake and not repeat it next year.
