So...Head of Drama (away most of this term) and Head of English told the pupils they could use 'tragedy' as a genre for their assessed practical for gcse (WJEC board) - then 4 days before the exam admitted that they'd stuffed up and told the kids to base their performance on Stanislavski instead, but not to worry because it wouldn't be assessed - they'd take it as a resit in March. But last night it turned out they WERE being graded! However, at the end of the night the assessing teacher told ds that he'd definitely got a top B so with good written work he should get an A overall. DS (and me) really chuffed and relieved.
Today all the kids are up in arms because they've had their marks back and those who did no preparation or had really small roles have got A's and seemingly stronger performers have got C's and B's and they don't understand why. Ds actually just scraped a bottom B so unless he gets 20/20 in the written there's no way he can go up a grade, so how mean of his teacher to say what she did. They're not allowed to resit and so they're cramming like mad now to retrospectively change their rationale before the written exam because of a mistake the school's made. I know it's just one exam and he hasn't failed it but all the kids are so crestfallen I feel really mad on their behalf.
