Hi all,

After over a year of TTC #2 & a MMC at 11 weeks in Feb, a faintest of faint lines appeared on a pg test today.

Instead of being ecstatic, I am so scared. Already I'm examining my body for problems. I've had heavy brown discharge for last week & pains near my right ovary. I've now all but convinced myself I'm having an ectopic.

Please, please, please can someone give me some tough love! How on earth does anyone "enjoy" a pregnancy after MC?

Help!!

How bad are the pains ? Ectopic is really extremely painful and normal pregnancy has some twinges associated with it.

What's your gp like? If they are nice then if were you sunshine I'd get yourself to your gp ASAP and have a good old chat. It's normal to be scared and worried but you sound like you are getting frantic. Ask if you can be booked in for an early scan. If necessary say you have a positive pregnancy test but you don't know your dates.

Even if they do get you in for a scan it will be a few weeks away so you'll have a cope for a bit.

There isn't an easy answer in how to enjoy it. For me, I didn't relax until after 32 weeks when I knew in all likelihood things would be ok. You just have to take each week as it comes and tell yourself if it's not going to work, it's not going to work.

Xx

It feels like I've got a pulled muscle into side & I just want to keep massaging it.

I've got a lovely GP so think I will make an appointment.

After a horrid year of miscarrying, then having an ovarian cyst, then taking clomid to regulate erratic AF since MC, I can't believe the end of the year could end happily.

I hope it turns out well OP. I bled (heavy period bleeding), had cramping pains when 3/4 weeks pregnant and remained pregnant so it isn't always an indication that something has gone wrong.

icklemssunshine · 26/11/2013 19:47

I hope so too! Thank you.

Good luck op! I had some pains similar to how you're describing and it turned out ok x

atomicyoghurt · 26/11/2013 19:51

The pains sound totally normal. I had a suspected ectopic and it was absolute agony even at 4 weeks pregnant. I couldn't stand still and was crying. They were convinced at the hospital it was ectopic but it was a kidney stone.

icklemssunshine · 26/11/2013 19:52

Thank you. Makes me feel relieved that I'm not alone. With my MMC I had no sign whatsoever that I had MCed til I had my scan at 12 weeks so I'm just worried about every flight twinge.

I don't want to be all doom and gloom, but ectopics are not always really painful.

Mine wasn't. And it is bloody lucky I am still here, as the pain was minimal. I had several visits tithe doctor, where it wasn't picked up as symptoms were so vague.

I was operated on at 9 weeks pregnant. My ectopic ruptured on the operating table.

I sincerely hope everything works out well for you, OP, but please don't dismiss ectopic because of minimal pain.

welshnat · 26/11/2013 19:57

I hope it all ends well for you Sunshine. I had an MC almost 3 years ago and was told if I were to fall pregnant again to call the hospital EPU and they would organise an early scan at 6 weeks (internal). When I fel pregnant again I did have the scan at 6 weeks, they said it was too early for heart beat so had another one 2 weeks later. Is there any way you could do something like this?

I hope you have a happy ending like I did OP!

Moreisnnogedag · 26/11/2013 19:59

I had the same before finding out I was pg. I thought it was the start of my period and me and DH went out on the town and drank shed loads to make us feel better! I felt proper guilty when I did the test!

Good luck Brew - no Wine for you just yet

icklemssunshine · 26/11/2013 20:04

I think I'll contact my GP first thing & see if I can get an appointment. Hopefully I can have a scan although I'd only be 4 weeks so doubt they'd see anything.

And by the way brown discharge is always better than bright red. It may just be implantation bleeding and the same with the pains.

NewBlueCoat · 26/11/2013 20:13

iirc, you are unlikely to get a scan before 6 weeks.

what might happen is that a blood test is taken to measure the amount of hcg - this test should then be repeated at (I think - sorry, was a looong time ago!) 48 hr intervals, as the hcg levels should double in this timeframe (generally, in a healthy pregnancy). this will give an indication of how things might be going.

heavy brown discharge for over a week sounds a lot to me.

tasmaniandevilchaser · 26/11/2013 20:41

hi, I had the same experience as newbluecoat, my ectopic pg wasn't especially painful, they caught it at 6 weeks, but it was starting to rupture when they operated.

It's best to eliminate that as a possibility, so that you can start to relax and enjoy your pg - well as much as you can after a MMC, I had one too, I know how stressful your next pg can be Sad.

They should measure your HCG levels 48 hrs apart, ideally the level should double. When your HCG levels are around 1500-2000 they should be able to do an ultrasound and see something in your womb. I did have a scan around 5 weeks but I think my EPAU is especially good.

And in the case of ectopic pregnancy, the classic discharge is prune coloured, so a dark brown, though I had bright red bleeding as well.

ickle sorry if this has panicked you, I was in this position 18 months ago (pg again after a MMC) and I know how horrible it is. It's unlikely to be an ectopic, but you should get it checked out - blood tests and a scan at around HCG levels of 1500-2000. But bleeding in early pg is so common, hope that it works out well for you.

tasmaniandevilchaser · 26/11/2013 20:46

I've just realised you've only just done a test, so if you're only about 4 weeks pg, then it's unlikely an ectopic would be causing you pain but if you go in and get checked out, then you get to see a little blob that is your baby [happy]

icklemssunshine · 26/11/2013 20:57

I'm really hoping it isn't. I'm just catastrophising. I've spent so long trying to get pg that I can't bare the thought of going through another MC.
