This stopping smoking lark is hard

I'm eating the nicotine cravings! I'm at the bottom of a Pringle tube, I have a back up tube.

I have half a bar (large bar) of milkybar waiting which I know I will eat.

I really just want a cig. The fact alcohol is been enjoyed means the cig craving is more than usual.

I went cold turkey before and I put on half a stone! I caved after a night out. I have now, the past week gone cold turkey.

Can I replace food with something? I have a pen which I hold like a cig so I have the feeling Grin

I know I have 2 cigs in the house and I haven't cracked yet but I am getting there

I have found my self following smokers Grin

Everyone turns into a walking cig lately!

I don't know why I picked now to do it. I will be gagging for a cig when next week as its toddlers hearing test. Should have waited til after

It is really really hard. I eventually quit with the help of inhalators.
They give you something to do with your hands and you get a taste of nicotine to take the edge of the cravings.
Good luck.

squoosh · 23/11/2013 23:48

It's really, really easy. The nicotine replacement industry want you to think it's hard.

SPsWouldCatFishNev · 23/11/2013 23:50

I tried an inhaler thing before. That was terrible.

squoosh it doesn't feel easy. I just want a cig

SP try an ecig.

I SWEAR to GOD.

I was 20 a day, bought an ecig 3 weeks ago and i havent had a fag since and I don't miss them.

You get the whole holding a fag thing, you get a hit at the back of your throat and the nicotine.

They are WONDERFUL.

I spent 40 quid on 2 ecigs and 10 tips 3 weeks ago (for DP and me who was also on 20 a day) and haven't had to but any since, I will buy some more tomorrow for a tenner for 5.

There are loads of varieties but I am using Socialites (there is a website but I bought mine from a shopping mall).

They come in fag flavour and also fruit flavour. I am currently on cherry.

I used to smoke benson and hedges silver (so lights like silk cut) and have the 1.2 strength but they also come in 2.4 which is like a full strength fag I believe.

I have been smoking for nearly 18 years and u gave never been able to give up before. These things are marvellous.

It's well worth twenty quid to give it a go.

squoosh · 23/11/2013 23:57

I know you do, that's because you still think smoking is something that benefited you. You are still romanticising the fags.

Every day I put the money I'd have spent on fags in a tin and promised myself to spend every penny on some luxury every week. Every time your tempted to cave in, look in the tin and think of what you fancy buying at the end of the week. Or you can just watch the money keep growing and think of all the lovely Christmas stuff you can get. As well as all that think about how your looks will improve and all the energy that your going to get. You can't lose. Good luck and stay strong.

SPsWouldCatFishNev · 23/11/2013 23:59

There's 2 e-cig things in shopping centre near me. I'll go have a look next week.

I was a Mayfair smoker classy bird Not cheap! How do teens afford it nowadays?!

It was £2.50 for Richmond when I was a teen. 50p each and we were sorted. Grin

I don't get why I am eating so much. Its strange.

I worked out that we used to spend 560 quid a month on fags which is more than the mortgage, silly Fuckers.

DP hasn't smoked either. We are saving a bloody fortune.

GetOrfOhSodOff · 24/11/2013 00:03

God knows why we smoked benson and hedges! we bight them from Tesco express as well, like profligate bastards. 4 quid a pack of 10 (always packs of 10 to kid ourselves). 16 quid on fags at least a day. Plus a bit more at the weekend insanely.

SPsAFattyFatFuk · 24/11/2013 00:04

What do people do when stressed etc and usually want a cig? In those situations would do you do instead?

JamNan · 24/11/2013 00:08

A glass of water helps beat a crave. Take up knitting or crochet or something crafty to occupy your hands. Don't worry about the weight gain you can address that later.

this site is helpful

SPsAFattyFatFuk · 24/11/2013 00:10

I shall go look into e-cigs next week. I will probably need one. Does the brand matter?

I will try the water thing. I used to.draw alot so I might go back to that for a bit.

wherethewildthingis · 24/11/2013 00:10

If you have a smart phone I strongly recommend an app called "quit now". It adds up how many cigs you haven't smoked, how much money you save and marks off health benefits. It is amazing and really really helped me!!

SPsAFattyFatFuk · 24/11/2013 00:16

Probably won't be in this app store. I have a windows phone. Its shite.

floatyflo · 24/11/2013 00:16

eased situations I would go and stand in the kitchen with the radio on gulp down a strong strong strong coffee.
But I also had the mouth spray which I highly recommend. Its completely disgusting but after a squirt I didn't fancy a fag so much as it made me feel like I had just chain smoked three!

floatyflo · 24/11/2013 00:17

Sorry for the typos!

JamNan · 24/11/2013 00:21

A nicotine inhaler on prescription from your GP might help. It used to be free but I don't know if it still is. I don't recommend the ecigs - I think they just reinforce the hand/mouth habit.

Electronic cigarettes were apparently developed, not as a way to stop smoking but, as a nicotine delivery system for the Beijing olympics so people weren't in and out every 2 minutes or the stadia full of smoke.

I have been told by our local hospital that someone using an electronic cig is still classed as a smoker as they are still inhaling nicotine. As they are not medicines they are not tested so even the non-nicotine ones can't be guaranteed

The oral spray is vile but gets good feedback, might be worth a try
