To think that the events co should manage the mikes?

If an events company is paid £££ to run a conference, should their staff do the 'running around with a microphone' bit for questions? The events company sorted out all the technology stuff including sound.

Or should people from the organisation who have hired them to run the conference for them, if that makes sense, do it, thus meaning they don't get to participate in the q and a sessions? Angry
Thoughts?

It's impossible for anyone else to answer your question.
Matters like this should have been discussed when you placed the contract with the events company.

I've never been anywhere that the events company did the microphone bit. Theres always people nominated to do that from the organisation

I didn't organise it or liaise with the company at all, the conference wasn't in a typical corporate environment so wasn't sure what the 'done thing' is. Just curious really (and pissed off that I was called a 'mike dolly' and wasn't able to fully participate in the day, and to be honest felt a bit demeaned that this was asked of me...).

You'd ask about it - it's quite an important point (given that it requires another person on site!)

I wouldn't normally pay for it though depending on the type of conference, the person you've got hosting the speakers can do it, particularly as it often requires some knowledge of the subject and participants to make sure the right people get to ask questions.

I've done the mike thing a lot, and anyone calling me a mike dolly would find themselves in pain rather rapidly. Certainly not demeaned by it, and it is a bit of an art to rapidly determine the best person to go to, and avoid those who go on and on without adding to the discussion.
