Attorney General's comments about corruption in Pakistani community

Hi,

This is a controversial subject, but very valid and I think it is important to discuss because if true, it has an impact on our DC's futures.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/10469448/Corruption-rife-in-the-Pakistani-community-says-minister.html

What I get from this is that he is saying that corruption is rife in Pakistan. When some Pakistanis (not everyone of course) come over to the UK they naturally are going to bring the corruption with them. As the pakistani community is growing, this maybe a problem for the UK.

I think i might be a bit unfair to out it all down to one country and group of people in particular. But I find myself agreeing with him...

What do you think?

corruption, potential for corruption and public belief that corruption is widespread in local government

ukip election fraud

I would say that it is more likely a more widespread problem or potential problem, due to general lack of accountability. Furthermore, I wonder why someone has chosen to name a particular group as being The Problem rather than saying that due to failures in the system, there is the potential for abuses of the system and if we did X, Y, Z this would ensure that could not happen.

I think that by naming a particular group, any genuine message about the need for change in the system as a whole in order to reduce the risk of fraud, will be drowned out by the cries of racism. Therefore it is less likely that there will be meaningful change.

But if we want to talk about corruption, let's also talk about mps expenses jiggery pokery, Jobs For The Boys and numerous contract securing backhanders and the like.

I am always wary of any attempt to wave and point over there--->

I wonder how long it will be before someone accuses you of being racist?

Every new cultural group, brings their negative as well as positive practices with them and it takes time to find a UK version of itself as it were.

What's so different about this, is normally these things affect those from the culture and local relatively powerless people only and in time local law enforcement manages to curb or at least contain the worst.

What is different here is the ability to impact on the democratic process of the country, which is a huge thing affecting everyone, so no it's not unfair to focus on any group able to do that, whoever they happen to be.

(though I absolutely agree with ^wary of any attempt to wave and point over there--->

Unless you think that we will all stop drinking because of people from Pakistan coming, then you shouldn't imagine that some perceived threat of corruption to going to come to anything either.
