To take my child out in public even though she is blue? (Lighthearted)

DD came home from nursery yesterday having had a whale of a time. She is 9mo. However someone had let her loose with some felt tips and she obviously decided she didn't like the colour of her hair (and scalp!) because she has drawn all over herself in blue felt-tip. There is a LOT of blue. She was obviously going for the Smurfette look. All of the other children were immaculate. It was hilarious - all of the others were say nicely colouring in their pictures and dd was rolling on the floor colouring everything in blue! She is the youngest by quite a long way so I think they let her get away with being the mischievous one...

She has a swimming lesson today and then we are going to lunch with a friend. I have tried water, shampoo, baby wipes and nothing has shifted the blue. MIL is horrified and has ordered us to stay in until all traces of blue are gone as she thinks people will be all judgy and not see the funny side of it and will possibly report me to SS for owning a blue child. I personally think it's quite hilarious and am planning to go out anyway. Who is BU?

You might get a problem in the pool if they don't want the blue coming off in their clean water....

But the answer to your problem is clear. Get some more felt tips of the appropriate skin colour, and colour her in. She obviously enjoys it.

I took dd to a&e once and they were all fussing round her (she was only about 10mo and had managed to hit her head. She seemed okay but GP advised I take her in. I suddenly overheard the doctors and realised they were concerned about her colour and I remembered she was covered in Avon sun cream that goes on blue but I'd applied too much and she did have a blue tinge still. Once I explained they all relaxed. I'm still not sure if they were genuinely concerned about her colour or the fact her mother might have issues and deliberately painted her blue before going to A&E as an attention seeking thing.

oh and we only have crayola washable pens in this house as it actually washes off... crayola orange paint is however another issue and dd has been to school looking she's badly applied tanning lotion! :)

What is it about blue? DW picked DD up from nursery with a bright blue face (and a huge grin) once, then I remember the time she came into our room and stuck out a blue tongue.

If it's any consolation my mum had to take me home on the bus from nursery once with a green face and red hair. My friend and I were sharing one of the two sided easels and had decided to paint each other.

I had long, white blond hair, which took the scarlet paint nicely and formed stiff red dreadlocks.

I am somewhat glad to see she has competition in the Blue stakes.

I hope you have a dog, or horse, that your dd can use as canvas in due course.

(Or a pond that you can treat with clearwater treatment before inviting your do to have a bath, so dog can turn blue all over. cos that did not happen to dhs aunts dog when he fell into our pond, oh no!)

lol DD once dyed herself green with help/encouragement from DS and my then 12 year old sister. They were making green icing for a Halloween cake at my mums, DD came through completely green cackling in just her knickers and a funnel on her head. It took days to wash off completely, luckily play-school thought it was hilarious.
