to think that there are far more D&V bugs around now than there were 30 years ago?

We've got another vomiting bug passing through the family atm - DS 2 brought it home from school where it's doing the rounds.

We seem to get one a year at least - last came via some friends we went to visit - my friend revealed after lunch (which she'd cooked) that she'd just recovered (as in yesterday) from a D&V bug, and 2 days later we all came down with it on holiday, which was fun.

Anyway, my DM says there weren't bugs like this going round in the 70s when I was little. She might be wrong, so wondering what other people's experience is? Are there more of this type of bug now and why would that be?

Interesting article on whether norovirus is an emergent illness by the cdc which talks about factors such as different strains of noro being a possible cause of more detection and also modern lifestyle exposing the population more to the viruses.

I'm.struck reading this thread how some people are blaming excessive cleaning for dampening our immune systems and others are blaming lack of hand washing, washing of towels, bedding etc.
No wonder we're all confused it reads like we clean some things too much and others not enough!

Yes Lolly, thought the same earlier. 'Antibacterial soaps cause it' to 'not washing hands cause it'.

DS1 is just recovering from Gastroenteritis. He's been poorly for over a week with it. Luckily touch wood we have escaped it.

I was referring to if someone in household had bug and the bug could be on Rowell best for sick person to use own towel . I did breast feed Ds and he has only had a few bugs over his eleven years and when he did I didn't catch it am sure I would have done if I had not been meticulous but I do release I am neurotic about it Confused

A friend became a teaching assistant, initially caught loads of bugs, but found careful handwashing def helped reduce the problem.
