For keeping dd off school today

Dd was really poorly two weeks ago, she had a viral infection, her breath stank. Toke her doctors and got a letter stating she was ill. So school was okay with that.

Today she's woke up with vile smell again and coughing saying her throat hurts. I'm not comfy sending her school, and would rather keep her wrapped up warm.

Am I being bad keeping her off?
She seems to catch every bug going around :.(

No, health comes first, YANBU.

Yanbu. She's so much more vulnerable to all the other bugs if she's already fighting one off. Could make her ill for weeks. Keep her home feed her up and let her rest :)

Thanks, I really do not get on with the ht at the school, we clash big time.

Your DC's health needs are unrelated to your wider relationship with the school.

Do what is right for her, and work separately on the relationship with the school. What's been going on with the HT? (Or is that too personal to post?)

Has she brushed her teeth?

YANBU. I've had to keep my DD off school for 2 days both this week and last week for similar symptoms. You don't need a doctor's letter for this, if the school question her absence it's their responsibility to request (and pay for) a private doctor's letter. Many GP surgeries are now in line with this, in the attempt to reduce the amount of ridiculous requests for "a note from your doctor" that schools make. There's no reason why parents shouldn't make the decision to stay at home if they judge the child is too ill too attend. Hope your daughter is ok, you are doing the right thing.

I'd definitely keep her home. My kids very frequently have strange breath just before/during an illness.

Tailtwister · 21/11/2013 08:44

YANBU to keep her home. A virus can stick around or a while and come and go (from personal experience, I'm not a Dr!) and I have found I only make things worse if I push myself.

Hope you DD gets better soon.
