To expect to find a whole new wardrobe for dd?

I have tried everywhere and I can't find anything at all that she really desperately needs.

She is 9, quite tall, but is developing and has small hips a bit of puppy fat and is quite muscly so not a small frame.
Trying not to say built like a brick shit house. She is certainly not overweight and until last week had been dancing since 2.5
Just in case anybody thought she may be obese.

She doesn't like one Direction. To be able sit down without showing her bum, something different to jeans t shirt and hoody, which is the only thing she has left.
Since summer her feet have grown from 1.5 to 3, she has shot up.
Her lovely well stocked versatile wardrobe is at the charity shop.
I'm totally lost.

Well done morethan, you sound like you had a huge day of shopping.
For me sadly Dd hates to shop, and no longer being able to just buy and bring home means it's a huge pain in the bum finding clothes for her as she doesn't seem to fit much. I'd forgotten about Lands end she has stuff from them I may just order from there as I know her size with them.

Squinkies

I think most of the problem was I was trying to find clothes like she used to wear and when they weren't appropriate anymore, panicked a bit.
I also told her there was to be no fussiness, fair enough if she really disliked something, but she knew she had to have some clothes or go naked.
She wouldn't let me carry any bags as she wanted people to know they were hers. The amount of Shock faces we received, not sure whether it was because it was during school hours or that she was carrying everything and I just had my handbag.
So wardrobe is now quite full and hopefully they will last a while now, and of course I'm more used to her changed shape now. Maybe she will be like dh, he is tall 6ft4. I presumed until now she would be my size 4 ft 10, but she's very nearly there now.

Thats funny we think Dd will be very tall too, I'm only 4' 11" and she has always been very tall. Shes level with my nose now and not 9 yet.

morethanpotatoprints · 23/11/2013 22:00

Yes, that is funny. I'm not sure exactly how tall dd is atm but she isn't far off me at all. It has come as a shock because up until recently she was sm/average for her age and many of her friends were taller.
We have started visiting her old school to collect her friend and all those who had been taller than her since reception she now towers over. I know they all grow but dd has completely changed out of all recognition.
She used to look fine in a leotard but against friends she is now double the shoulder width. It came as quite a shock, but we're getting used to it. She is really conscious of it herself, but I have explained about growth and how we can vary, so she is all right about it now.

Incidentally, mine love smart shorts with tights and a nice top or cardi as an alternative to dresses but instead of jeans. Might work for her?

Ah, where do you get smart shorts? I have been looking and can only find denim, would love some more formal or smart shorts.

I got nice tweedy ones in asda I think. Next also might stock some. Will have a look and come back.

Monsoon have a nice pair. Boden might too. M and S sometimes have them.

Sainsburys have smart shorts in at the minute. They have also just got some new styles in - a bit more Christmassy ie red Smile

I go to tesco for dcs clothes and find them to be cut a bit on the roomier size. Seem to be nice quality too (better than asda or primark) and wash well.
