That's awfully heavy for a cat, what are you feeding the thing.

Sirzy · 20/11/2013 16:36

Piriton is OTC is only for over 1s isn't it? In which case yes you would be unreasonable to give him some without seeking medical advice first.

Hes only just allergic to your cat now?

And what were you planning on giving him a portion of?

samithesausage · 20/11/2013 16:58

It could be anything, so don't blame the cat just yet! Washing powder, bubble bath, new foods.
Also are you sure its hives, could it be chicken pox? Also google Meningitis Symptoms just to be on the safe side.

Just take him to the docs. They will test him.

My 10 month old has been prescribed piriton for an allergy (1ml) but I would see a doctor before using it and to sort out proper allergy testing. I have heard with cat allergies it can be an allergy to the cats saliva and that wiping them with a damp cloth can help, might be worth a go?

Piriton has a very short lived effect I'm afraid, and unless you plan to get rid of the cat then it's not really a suitable option. He could be allergic to anything, there is a simple blood test that can check for allergy to different types of animal dander, but taking bloods is often tricky from babies, and its unlikely your GP would do this. You could ask for a referral to an allergy clinic for testing.
