To be paranoid about Health Visitor visit?

This morning I had to pick up my DC from nursery due to a high temp. As DC has had a bad cough for the last few days, I took him to the doctor's to get him checked over. Doc simply said that he had a throat infection and just to keep up with fluids/calpol and he should be fine.

An hour later I got a call from the Health Visitor team saying that my DC was 'due a check' and could they come round this week to 'weigh him and do a quick check'.

Seemingly unrelated, I went to the docs myself about anxiety last week and was put in AD's, now I'm wondering whether we've been put on some sort of at risk list.

Am I being unreasonable to be paranoid?

How old is he, and when was the last time he was weighed or checked up on?

tweetytwat · 20/11/2013 14:09

How old's the baby? She may just want to see if you need a bit of support - there's nothing there that flags up any risk to the child Smile

He's almost 2 and he hasn't been to weighing clinic for about 4 months, mainly because I work 4/5 days a week.

2 year check used to be done like that.

It sounds like you may have been put on a ' may need support' list. I was on one for a while, when there were probs with ds2's health, we had just moved and life was a bit fraught.

HV came round for a cup of tea and a chat and told me where to find her. Think she may have rung a couple of times after that to see how I was.

In all honesty it wasn't very helpful but it was sort of nice that they cared.

CrohnicallyTired · 20/11/2013 14:16

There's a regular check up scheduled for around age 2 anyway. So it could be unrelated to either doctors visit. Or you may find that, with recent events, any mother given ADs is flagged up to the health visiting service, not to put you on an 'at risk' list, but in case you need further support.

BarbarianMum · 20/11/2013 14:16

Oh, just seen your last post. Sounds like the 2 year check.

bobbleswain · 20/11/2013 14:26

Thanks for the reassurances, hopefully it is just for the two year check :)

Funnily enough the AD's seem to be helping, but it's the thought of the HV team thinking that I may not be coping that makes me nervous. DC is a really happy chatty little boy but always gets shy around strangers so never shows his sunny side to the HV or doctors

2 year check I bet!

lifecolour · 20/11/2013 14:45

The h.v would not put you down as a risk unless you were obviously not coping. I know someone who is a mental health nurse who sees patients at home and they would only report someone if they saw they were having real problems, for example neglecting the child. Needing AD would not be a reason to report.

I went on ad's in March when ds2 was about 18 mths. Haven't seen sight nor sound from the HV so I bet it's your ds's two year check. (Mind you, hv hasn't seen sight nor sound from ds2 since he was 4 mths but hey ho, he's doing ok, weight is fine I weigh him at the vets on their big dog scales :) )
