to think they could have asked? (Dog related)

I'm going to try to keep this vague so I don't out myself.

This is also not a dog bashing thread. I have an energetic dog myself and also have some experience working with difficult dogs in a kennel environment. I am very much a dog person.

DP's parents are on holiday. I had arranged some holidays from work before they booked this. I offered to stay at their house and keep their dog company.

Dog is getting on and is quite poorly. She's a people dog and pines when she is alone. It's also less stressful than putting her in a kennels as she gets anxious around other dogs.

First couple of days are fine. Dog happy curled up sleeping.

I woke up this morning and could hear howling.

One of DP's relatives has brought their very large, boisterous dog to the house and has gone to work. Dog has also not been trained much and is causing problems now as he is massive.

DP and I go downstairs and little dog is roaming free round the house and big dog is locked in the kitchen scrabbling the door.

DP had to go to work so I'm now left with one large naughty dog and one anxious little dog trying to find somewhere to relax.

So far he's peed round the house, splintered part of the kitchen door, nipped me on the thigh and stomach and jumped all over little dog.

If DP's relative had have asked I would have said yes and been able to prepare myself beforehand.

AIBU to think I should have been asked? Sorry that this was so long. Bonios for those who made it this far! Biscuit

Oh my word ?!! That's terrible !!! Take photos and video of how badly their beloved pet is behaving and show them when they come to collect !! This is totally out of order and they should have at least had the curiosity to ask !!! AND they should offer to pay for the damage caused !

OnePlanOnHouzz · 20/11/2013 12:36

Hahah spot the typo !!

Iamsparklyknickers · 20/11/2013 12:36

Bloody hell - yes you should have been and from the sounds of it his owners should have been up before dawn walking the life out of him before dropping him off.

Is it a regular thing they do with your DP's parents?

Bakingtins · 20/11/2013 12:39

"If DP's relative had have asked I would have said no ", surely? Quite different looking after small, old, non-demanding dog and large, boisterous, poorly-trained lunatic dog. Did they know DPs parents were away? Is this a regular arrangement?
Quite unreasonable to assume you were ok with it without asking, anyway.

SaucyJack · 20/11/2013 12:41

WTF?

Secondopinions · 20/11/2013 12:42

OnePlan They are well aware of how naughty the dog is. Their last dog behaved like this. It sadly escalated and the dog had to be put down.

Iamsparkly Yes they do it quite often. About 3 times a week and sometimes at weekends.

As I said if they asked I'd have happily dog proofed the house mentally prepared and would have made a safe spot for little dog.

YANBU by the way!

Secondopinions · 20/11/2013 12:43

Bakingtins I would say yes. Call me crazy but if I was prepared I would have managed fine

Yes they should have asked, you didn't promise to look after their dog. They should still pay for the damage, and get their dog to behaviour training classes. I'm amazed that DP's parents let this go on.

BlackeyedSusan · 20/11/2013 12:56

yanbu. assuming anything without asking is unfair.

Secondopinions · 20/11/2013 13:33

Girly I think DP's parents will just do the repairs themselves.
