...to not be able to stop googling a potential illness?

I went to the doctors last week, with a two very small moles on my thigh, which are funny shapes. I was expecting to be told that they were nothing and to stop being silly, but instead he said they were probably nothing, but he was going to refer me to the melanoma clinic anyway to get then checked. They were quick to get back to me and my appointment is on Tuesday.

I cannot stop googling melanoma, pictures of melanoma, stories about melanoma. I don't even know if they are just weird freckles, and google is certainly not leaving me any further illuminated. I'm now more stressed than i was before, but cannot stop myself.

Does anyone do this, or am I losing the plot entirely?

Dr Google is, without question, the very worst doctor on the planet. The worst.

Not a single time, when I have consulted him, has he been right.

According to him I've had every form of cancer going.

Stop Googling! Now!

I had a dodgy mole off a few years ago. It was an odd shape & had been bleeding.

It was entirely benign. Yours almost certainly will be too. Please don't worry - and good luck :)

Certain things meet the criteria for ' 2 week wait or Rapid Access Clinics'.

Your GP is correct to be cautious but you need to look at this as much more likely to be ruling out a melanoma.

Of course you will worry but don't goole medical stuff, it rarely helps.

Try to stop. I have recently gone through an awful time health wise, exacerbated by stress and anxiety almost certainly made worse by Googling. I made myself ill with worry and became obsessed!! Hopefully coming out the other side now.

I am sure your doc is just being cautious.

Thank you everyone, I am glad it's not just me that seems to get a bit obsessed with these things? I will keep thinking positive and hopefully it will all come to nothing. :)

Well we are told to check our moles and the dr is seeing you quickly so yanbu to be worried. But try to stop checking google until you see the dr you will make yourself crazy. Do things to take your mind off it. Think positive x

Please don't worry unnecessarily, it's difficult I know. I've had melanoma and been free of disease for 2 years now :-) Even at worst case scenario, you are being referred quickly which makes a huge difference in terms of diagnosis and treatment.

My melanoma was stage 2 and I had surgery but thankfully no radiotherapy or chemo.

Hope all goes well with your appointment, step away from google !

You may have a biopsy at your appointment - I did, and wasn't prepared. It may have been better not taking my 2 year old with me the waiting room still probably hasn't recovered.

Best of luck Flowers
