I was at work today, i work in a very nice shop, I approached a customer laying on a bed. He wasnt much older than me ( mid 30's) and had two early teens with him. I asked if he was ok and if he needed any help, to which he responded' im alright love, id be better if you jump on next to me' I laughed and said ' no' but he carried on telling me how much i wanted to and that his wife was in the loo and to be quick.
His children seemed to think it was funny, i felt awkward and embarrassed. I walked away feeling humiliated and laughed at.

Do i need to get a grip or am right that he was, in fact, a knobber.

YANBU. Tosser, and I agree: what a bad example to set for his kids.

Maybe assimilate a couple of the suggestions for putdowns on here so you can use them in future? 'I'm sorry sir but that lewd sort of behaviour isn't tolerated and perhaps you'd like to try elsewhere?' and 'in your wet dreams love' Grin

I know that last one might get you into trouble, but the comedy value might just make it worth it.

Vile man. YA only being unreasonable in thinking it was you who was humiliated. It wasn't, it was him and his unfortunate children.

I work in Ot clinic and there is one particular dad it makes me cringe whenever he speaks to dr.
When she talks about massage or extra excersises for little one he always indirectly talks about his needs ( hm) for soft touch.
Highly inappropriate !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wonder what his DW would say:(

Financeprincess · 17/11/2013 20:21

I'd have just laughed it off. I suspect he couldn't find a graceful exit from the misfired joke and felt obliged to carry on with it!

stubbornstains · 17/11/2013 20:26

He's got you at a right disadvantage, hasn't he? He can say what he wants, as he's the customer, and he knows that you're obliged to be polite, as that's your work role. Hey, don't worry love, it was "just banter" Angry

fiftyandfab · 17/11/2013 21:47

he was a knob. I'd have been tempted to tell him to come back at closing time....

intitgrand · 17/11/2013 21:58

He was an knob. The one throwaway 'joke' might have been a very poor attempt at humour , but to keep harping on at it was just plain creepy.
However yABU to spell humour the American way!

Vikki88 · 17/11/2013 23:07

I think you're being a bit overly sensitive, no need to feel embarrassed or humiliated. He's just clearly a pathetically cringey man - you should pity him if anything.

kennyp · 17/11/2013 23:14

i'd be quite repulsed by that customer, regardless of how much time i'm spending here (mumsnet, not a bed shop) (but then agian i don't find the pom bears thing remotely amusing).

sounds like a rude git and i am offended by stuff like that. there's a man at work who's a right letchy twat and he makes my skin crawl. eurgh.
