AIBU to feel like this?

PeaceAndHope · 17/11/2013 01:03

I am PMSing. Badly.

I have eaten four mini Betty Crocker cakes all by myself in 6 days Blush in addition to my normal meals. I cannot stop craving sugar, especially cake!!!!!!

I have battled with my weight all my life and just this year I finally attained the weight that I had always wanted. I'm now a size 6 which I never thought was possible even in my wildest dreams. I have been so good with my diet and I really want to maintain the way I am now. :( But because the ten or so days leading up to my period are such a nightmare, it always throws my diet off and this time was particularly bad.

I don't know if it's bloating and water retention, but I already feel like I have gained weight and it's making me panicky.

AIBU to feel this way?

You probably have gaindd a little weight. But its easily lost in the same way esp bloating weight. You know you can do it now, youve lost the weight and you can do it again. That said size 6 sounds tiny unless you are very small!

StealthPolarBear · 17/11/2013 01:06

Habg on...4 mini cakes in 6 days? Id do that on my 'diet' days, not exaggerating. Op your restrictions sound extreme

StealthPolarBear · 17/11/2013 01:07

But that's fine. We all choose what to eat or what not to eat. But at size 6 you presumably dont need tonlose weight, yiu just need to eat well

PeaceAndHope · 17/11/2013 01:12

OK wait, I need to clarify what I meant by mini-cakes. I was referring to a cake made at home with half a packet of the Betty Crocker stuff. It's around 1/2 of what a proper, full-sized cake from a store would be like. Not like the tiny Jaffa Cakes. I wouldn't even care about those!

The last time I checked my weight I was 110lbs.

StealthPolarBear · 17/11/2013 01:15

Ah ok :) it happens. You ca eitther get back on the diet now or further down the line. Sooner is easier!

PeaceAndHope · 17/11/2013 01:18

Well, PMS makes me nauseous and unwell, and this cake was the only thing that didn't make me throw up. Everything else was making me sick. :(

Yabu to care so much about your weight. It doesn't matter! Pms makes us all feel different. It's normal.
Try to relax.

DameDeepRedBetty · 17/11/2013 01:23

Unless you're only 4' 3" size six is a bit on the skinny side OP.

Slatecross · 17/11/2013 01:39

There's something happening with your blood glucose.

PeaceAndHope · 17/11/2013 01:40

I used to be a size 12-14, and I don't want to go back to that. I guess that's why I am a bit paranoid about not gaining it all back :)

OP posts:
Thants · 17/11/2013 01:58

Why would you be paranoid about being a 12-14. Why does it matter what dress size you wear.

fannyfireworks · 17/11/2013 02:03

Sounds like you have disordered eating OP. Give beat a call xx

tinmug · 17/11/2013 02:03

How tall are you?

PeaceAndHope · 17/11/2013 02:08

I'm about 5'4".

It wasn't the dress size I was paranoid about, it was my weight at the time. It was really unhealthy and I didn't feel confident at all. I know so many women who are size 12-14 and they look fab!! It's just that I didn't feel good because it didn't suit me.

Anyway, I have been having an awful time eating healthy while PMSing and I just wanted to vent a little.

PeaceAndHope · 17/11/2013 02:09

What's 'beat'?

OP posts:
tinmug · 17/11/2013 02:27

Beat is a website aimed at helping people with eating disorders. I don't know if you have an eating disorder (obviously) but your feelings about food and weight do seem to be distressing to you.

Have you sought medical help for your PMS? I'm fairly sure that vomiting up everything you eat apart from cake for ten days every month is not normal, and your GP might be able to help.

PeaceAndHope · 17/11/2013 02:40

I don't have an eating disorder, and I don't know why anyone would think that?

I haven't been throwing up everything other than cake. Other foods have made me feel like throwing up, but I have obviously dealt with the problem with some anti-sickness medication and by eating smaller portions through the day.

And I don't recall saying that this happens every month, so not sure where you got that from. I do have symptoms of PMS in the week-ten days leading up to my period but they vary in type and they aren't so severe every month.

Lilacroses · 17/11/2013 03:11

Hi op, I think people are suggesting an eating disorder because of your panicked reaction at eating some cakes over several days. I understand about the sugar thing, I get a similar craving myself when I have my period. Fwiw I am also watching my weight and have found that as long as I am eating healthily most of the time a few bad days makes very little difference.

EBearhug · 17/11/2013 03:11

I don't have an eating disorder, and I don't know why anyone would think that?

Because you're 5'4" and a size 6 and under 8st.

But anyway, if I had PMS that made me feel nauseous, I'd be discussing it with my GP to see what options I had. Hormonal contraception might smooth your hormonal peaks and troughs, but it's not an answer for everyone, for a number of reasons, not just TTC. There could be other things affecting you, which could be checked by a doctor, if they felt it appropriate.

Maybe seeing a dietician - there may be other, healthier foods you could tolerate - and even if cake is all you can take, then maybe something like a fat-free microwave sponge would be healthier than a Betty Crocker mix, which I assume probably has artificial preservatives and so on. Ginger is good for nausea, too.

10 days, though? That's a third of the month. I wouldn't want to put up with that for so long.

PeaceAndHope · 17/11/2013 03:34

Please don't assume that I haven't sought help for my PMS.

I have tried hormonal medication and it gave me some side effects that I wasn't happy with. I won't be going back to the pill. I have mild PCOD and I have been told that other than going on the pill, there is actually very little that I can do about my PMS symptoms. Exercise, herbal remedies etc have all been suggested and I do those things already.

Believe me, I don't want to put up with this either, but the treatment that is available doesn't really work for me so I don't have a choice.

Lilacroses

I'm not the only one then!! It's reassuring to know that :)

I put on approx 5lb every month, a week before my period starts. I then kids it I the two weeks following it. My eating doesn't change just how it is.
I crave crap food during this time and sometimes fall into family bags of Haribos. (horribos). I can relate to feeling guilty but know I've issues around food and weight - so I've learnt to just relax and accept it. 'Feeling' the weight viking in is worrying, makes me feel guilty and regretful. But I try to pig out on things like Half Syn Cake (have a google) to reduce these awful feelings and still pig out a bit - guilt free!
Fruit is great too - with a toffee muller light.

GoodnessKnows · 17/11/2013 03:38

Kids it = lose it

GoodnessKnows · 17/11/2013 03:39

Viking in = coming on. Lol

MiniMonty · 17/11/2013 04:57

Good Lord...
I can't believe all these incredible MYTHS are STILL knocking around.

If you want to lose weight (or just stay as you are) JUST DON'T EAT SUGAR !

It's so, so simple.

You body can and will process fat from meat, from dairy (from anywhere you can get it actually) but your body has no mechanism AT ALL for processing sugar - so ALL the sugar you put into your body is stored and then turned into fat.

You can eat as much FAT as you like. You can live on cream, put a joint of pork on the table every night or drown in lamb chops - none of these things will ever make you fat.

It's really simple...
Sugar = weight because your body will convert the sugar you put into it into fat. You body has no other way of dealing with sugar except to turn it into fat.

Google it. Do some research.

Fat - in Lard, in Butter, in any form is actually GOOD FOR YOU !
It's sugar you should be scared of and it's sugar that will make you HEAVY !
