To think some people on here need to just let things go...

For example: there's 2 or 3 threads about the same topic, and all you see is comments saying "this had been done to death" or "any need for another thread"

So what? Maybe the OP missed the previous threads, or had only just heard about the topic and didn't realise someone else had brought it up. Why is there any need to comment saying there's no need for multiple threads?

I can understand that people don't want to see the same thread over and over again, so why not just hide the thread? Or just don't click on it!

I miss a lot of threads the first time round so like the additional threads. If you post on old threads you are accused of dragging up a zombie thread... Can't win!

Justforlaughs · 16/11/2013 16:14

YANBU OP, I don;t get it either. I occasionally click on a thread and think "I've commented on this subject so many times I can;t be bothered" so I don;t bother - end of! It would help if people gave a bit more information in the title though at times. Easier to spot repeat subjects.

azzbiscuit · 16/11/2013 16:17

Feeling the need to make such comments is usually an indicator that you need to step away from the internet and find something better to do.

Tee2072 · 16/11/2013 16:18

Because people need to look around the boards if something is topical and add to current discussions?

I don't mind if it's something about feeding or similar but when there are 1,000,000 threads about things in the news, it's very very boring for everyone else.

Read active. Then post.

BopsX3 · 16/11/2013 16:19

You read my mind azzbiscuit Grin I was just thinking that maybe some people have nothing better to do with their time.

OP posts:

It's usually because the OP has a different view to the poster writing a sarcastic or shitty comment.

So what if there's 3 threads about the same topic?

I don't spend all day on MN, I don't sit trawling through every topic.

YANBU OP.

BopsX3 · 16/11/2013 16:23

Tee what about the people that missed the previous posts that aren't active anymore?

Or people that are new to mumsnet and simply didn't realise there were already posts from a few days before about the same/similar topic.

I think it's just much easier for people to either not read, or hide the threads than post loads of comments about how the subject has already been discussed. It's not really helpful for the OP is it?

That's what lurkers usually do.

Ragwort · 16/11/2013 16:25

I genuinely try to think about whether I am adding anything positive to a discussion before posting (probably not always Grin) - after too many years on here I am really fed up with certain subjects - controlled crying, MIL threads, primary school admission, buying presents for teachers ........... these subjects are tedious beyond belief so I try and avoid them. Also as your children get older it gets less relevant to post on threads about babies/toddlers as your views and opinions are inevitably quite old-fashioned and you risk turning into your own mother.

Agree with just though, sometimes the titles are really misleading and need to give more information.

MrsBungleScare · 16/11/2013 16:27

I agree op. Some people come across as the thread police. If people want to start their own thread about something, they're perfectly entitled to do so.

If other posters are bored of the topic or have already posted on another thread then they can choose not to post again. I don't understand the angst about it. Really not a big deal in my opinion. No need to go on the thread and tell the op off.

Laquitar · 16/11/2013 16:30

Op
This has been done to death.
