I'm thoroughly ashamed of my antecedents.

They were all goodly rustic folk who could be counted on to prostrate themselves.

Askance is a great word! As is Niggardly, but people assume it's offensive. It isn't.

nickelbabe · 15/11/2013 23:32

I conclude that the diverse nature of your OP means that it's most expedient to request the adpption of the motion.

I think it would be most efficacious to utilize the word etymologically.

typographical errors notwithstanding.

Salmotrutta · 15/11/2013 23:33

They delved and span.

nobutreally · 15/11/2013 23:38

Jeepers. I promise it's the ipad that can't spell. Not me.

BOF · 15/11/2013 23:41

Salmotrutta, I find your alacrity and ebullience in this matter most auspicious for the pedagogical future of mumsnet. This thread has been sorely needed, and your perspicacity in recognising the fact has been duly noted.

Salmotrutta · 15/11/2013 23:42

And what should one do if their pistil lion is actually struck by lightning??

And why should I steal a march on someone?

OP posts:
Salmotrutta · 15/11/2013 23:44

BillyBanter · 15/11/2013 23:44

I use the word maybe 3 times a year, I use the look a lot more often.

Salmotrutta · 15/11/2013 23:45

Thank you BOF

I'm so glad you concur.

OP posts:
Salmotrutta · 15/11/2013 23:45

I think we should all concur more often actually.

I told ds' PE teacher in a note asking for him to be excused that ds' injury had been exacerbated at rugby training, which he commented upon to ds Hmm.

I have found myself using the word "inculcated" a lot recently. Also like the verb "to thole [something]" - but that's a Scottish expression and not "standard" English.

Salmotrutta · 15/11/2013 23:49

Oh I "thole" many a thing pretty.

'Tis a goodly word!

OP posts:
prettybird · 15/11/2013 23:51

There isn't a good equivalent is there? It's a great word. Grin

Salmotrutta · 15/11/2013 23:51

And Terry Wogan is a choleric man.

I stand by that - it will not be popular but I think it's true.

OP posts:
Salmotrutta · 15/11/2013 23:53

Ah cannae thole yon man...

OP posts:
Caitlin17 · 15/11/2013 23:57

And for those persons one cannot thole defenestration might be an option.

Salmotrutta · 16/11/2013 00:04

And whilst you may know your kin... Do you know your kith?

Hmm?

OP posts:
Salmotrutta · 16/11/2013 00:05
