To think major high street shops like M&S could stock maternity clothes in store?

I'm 6 months pregnant and fed up with trying to buy maternity things in shops, only to find that they're only available on shops' websites. I live near a massive M&S and the only maternity clothes they stock are... 2 pairs of tights! Yes, 2! Available in black OR nude. The shop assistant seemed to think I'd be delighted to be so spoilt for choice. Grrr.

Agree, very annoying. Try H&M, they have a decent range of maternity clothes in store and v good prices.....

Fasterkillpussycat · 15/11/2013 21:43

Completely agree. I hate not being able to try things on and having to send it back when it looks terrible. Also agree re H&M. - I got some good maternity jeans there.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/11/2013 21:43

I got a few pieces of M&S Maternity when I was pg with DD (who is now 11 yo)
It was on sale back then because I don't think it was doing so well in store.

I certainly haven't seen any since (not that I'm looking ) Blush

IneedAsockamnesty · 15/11/2013 21:44

Larger new looks are not to bad.

Boggler · 15/11/2013 21:47

Peacocks stock maternity clothes in their shops some of its ok.

TheSurgeonsMate · 15/11/2013 21:49

Top shop?

I didn't know these other places did them, I only bought mine in gap, top shop and maternity shops

overfacebook · 15/11/2013 21:49

Thanks, I'll try H&M & new look! It's so annoying not being able to try stuff on, plus on the 2 occasions I've ordered online to collect in store, they can't find the order when I come to collect it. It's not like being pregnant is unusual!

Yanbu. Extremely annoying.

I found h & m, John Lewis and mamas and papas best for actually having clothes available to try on.

TheSurgeonsMate · 15/11/2013 21:53

That's m and s all over, though, on orders. They never can predict when stuff will come, or tell you if it ever came or find it or anything.

Heartbrokenmum73 · 15/11/2013 21:55

Dorothy Perkins do maternity clothes too. And New Look (bigger branches anyway).

Mouthfulofquiz · 15/11/2013 21:56

It's annoying because the shops that do stock stuff are full of tshirts that say things like 'does my bump look big in this' VOMIT.
Just because I'm pregnant doesn't mean I want to dress like a teenager. I'm a 31 year old woman.

overfacebook · 15/11/2013 22:02

Ha! I know exactly what you mean. I just want some normal clothes for work that don't cost the earth! Will look in a the shops everyone's recommended, thanks ladies.

Also - pregnant women can't just live in leggings all the time, contrary to popular belief. I can't go to work in leggings!!
Out of desperation last week I finally found a pair of almost satisfactory work trousers in matalan. I don't usually shop there but I had no other choice - I was bursting out of my suit! Anyway - the material is fairly rank. I might set on fire if I walk too quickly.... But style wise - they'll do.

Crocodilehunter · 15/11/2013 22:09

I know it defeats the point of your OP because it's online but ASOS do some lovely maternity clothes! I'm forever accidentally clicking on the maternity wear because it looks good!

OrangePixie · 15/11/2013 22:11

God, YANBU, it's a nightmare. Lots of places have a maternity range but so few of their branches seem to stock it. Or they have one tiny rack.

When you can find it, H&M and New Look are the best.

extracrunchy · 15/11/2013 22:11

YES!!!

Figgygal · 15/11/2013 22:13

Second h&m, new look and some asda do too

FrankelInFoal · 15/11/2013 22:14

I found a very small selection in the Red Herring section in Debenhams, but it was all very casual stuff. In the end I found a JoJo Maman Bebe store near me and spent a fortune in there!

I don't like buying clothes online, I hate not being able to try things on first.

Mymumsfurcoat · 15/11/2013 22:14

M&S are shit though Grin I bought all my maternity clothes there, size 16

Elasticated waists saw me all the way through both times.

ananikifo · 15/11/2013 22:15

YANBU. I was near tears trying to shop for maternity clothes in person. Next is online-only now, or so I was told. New Look saved me. I always got complimented on the dress and top I bought there.

MissRabbitsCV · 15/11/2013 22:19

Next online did a great black suit that saw me through 2 pregnancies.

Mymumsfurcoat · 15/11/2013 22:19

I admit my bumps were always in proportion to me, iykwim, never out in front. But can't you wear elastic waists above or below bump? I don't really believe in "maternity wear", just wear clothes!

cardibach · 15/11/2013 22:25

Mymum my whole shape altered when I was pregnant. By the time the sickness (which prevented waist/hip bands of any kind) subsided, I had nowhere to put a waist/hip band. It had to be maternity. You are lucky if your bump cooperated.

RubyrooUK · 15/11/2013 22:33

I found it impossible buying formal maternity clothes on the high street. I was working up till 38.5 weeks and I was still attending formal work evening events up till then. But can you buy a smart dress for an eight months' pregnant woman in shops? No. And when your shape is changing so rapidly, you don't want to buy online because you aren't sure what will suit you. I just wanted something to try on!!!!

RubyrooUK · 15/11/2013 22:34

Oh, and I did buy non-maternity stuff in the end, but then I had to go several sizes up and it was too big elsewhere, hanging off my arms and so on. So it wasn't a perfect solution.
