Courgettes and radishes are summer vegetables.

Carrots and mushrooms are year round vegetables.

Bloody stupid kids wooden toy.

Would it have killed them to put in a squash? or a parsnip?

OP posts:
chocoluvva · 15/11/2013 12:14

I'd expect potatoes, swede or turnip, brassica especially sprouts, parsnips and onions and a squash of some variety.

YankNCock · 16/11/2013 16:04

I took them over to show the preschool supervisor, and we agreed they're not at all what we were after.

In possibly the most middle class email I've ever written, I've asked to return these due to them being much smaller than expected, and not representative of 'winter' vegetables.

So, in centimetres or inches, who would like to guess the actual dimensions of the crate? Looks like a reasonable size, right?

I guess 4"x8"

Justforlaughs · 16/11/2013 16:08

Actually, having looked at the link I think YABslightlyU in that you can clearly see what vegetables are in the crate.

Justforlaughs · 16/11/2013 16:09

And where did it say anything about "winter vegetables"? Confused

BillyBanter · 16/11/2013 16:11

where are the leeks and sprouts?

There is a winter veg option on the dropdown box. I thought the same as you at first.

YankNCock · 16/11/2013 16:28

It's 12cm x 15cm or 4.7 x 5.9 inches. Tiddly.

when it arrived, it also very clearly is labelled 'Winter Vegetables'.

Someone suggested the green things might be marrow, but when I found this toy on the manufacturer's website, it's clearly listed as a courgette.

I really didn't look at what was in it too closely when I purchased. Just thought if something was advertised specifically as 'winter vegetables', they would be as stated!

Oooh brilliant fake veg here-- thought probably easily destroyed by and toxic to 3 year olds.

Back to square one.

but they are ' Gurananteed to bring a smile on any child's face' apparently, so YABU because you can't put a price on that Wink

YankNCock · 17/11/2013 11:01

What if it's a smile masking the child's utter sorrow at being fobbed off with unseasonable vegetables?

Yes, it's exactly the sort of dilemma that would have upset my DD when she was small. And she'd have gone on about it until I was unhappy too. Grin

IneedAsockamnesty · 17/11/2013 11:17

Go look on amazon for wooden toy food your unlikely not to find what you want (big jigs) have a very good range.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 17/11/2013 11:20

My courgette plants are still growing courgettes

DifferenceEngine · 17/11/2013 11:22

Wilko do a naice wooden veg box

And a cake

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 17/11/2013 11:22

I agree the choice of veg is odd but I don't think you have a leg to stand on with such clear pictures

BuntyPenfold · 17/11/2013 11:25

If its play food, I normally give out a few bargain real carrots, potatoes, lemons etc.

stressedsister1 · 17/11/2013 11:28

I think you could complain about the size, but not the variety of veg as it was v clear from the picture what was being sold.

YankNCock · 17/11/2013 11:29

TheWomanTheCallJayne (love the name, Firefly, right?), but it's not winter yet. It's still Autumn.

Yes, I should have looked closer, but equally the description should have listed the vegetables (other places did). The manufacturer is really to blame, they could have just called them 'Vegetables'.

OP posts:
YankNCock · 17/11/2013 11:31

Bunty, it's for a preschool, we want them to last a few years. Can't risk rotting veg being left over the holidays either, you just know one of the kids will throw it behind something!

OP posts:
ConfusedDotty · 17/11/2013 11:38

Maybe they are imported? You can get courgettes willy nilly now no matter what time of year.

TiggyD · 17/11/2013 13:07

It's a bargain, and if unseasonable wooden vegetable merits 8 posts on an internet forum, you really desperately need a holiday.

stiffstink · 17/11/2013 13:39

I once went to a wedding in February and the starter was "seasonal melon". It took everything I had not to interrupt the speeches to yell "Melon shouldn't be eaten in winter!" Shock

YankNCock · 18/11/2013 09:28

stiffstink I am with you there.

TiggyD Yes I desperately do need a holiday. Unfortunately, I am running a preschool charity as a volunteer, spending 30+ hours a week dealing with business/admin/website/purchasing/HR nightmares/solicitors, because no bugger else wanted to do it (though they'll be the first to moan when we shut down!). So stupid things like this fuck me off, and I amuse myself by having a little rant about it, because I can't afford a holiday.
