To ask how you keep motivated to lose weight in the winter?

I am currently losing weight. I'm 2 lbs off losing 3 stone...but still have a way to go (about another two stone after that).
Since winter has started setting in I am finding it really hard to stay motivated. To be honest I am not sure why. Whether its the fact its dark when I start work and dark when I finish so it feels later than it is when I get home and so I just want to go to bed and not out for a run/cycle (I am starting a bit later today as I had to work really late last night, so I have wrapped up and been out on my bike this morning - its cod, windy and horrid), or whether because its winter my mind keeps telling me I need stodgier food.......There are so many reasons and I know they are probably all rubbish but I have come this far I don't want to go back!
Help me!

do fun excercising and with the kids (not sure what age he/she/they are - take your kid(s) ice skating, walk with them in the stroller, start a dancing competition with them

that way its fun and doable

plus drink lots of tea - it curbs hunger and keeps you nice and warm!

good luck

Ask a friend to weigh you each week and pay a fine if you don't lose (or buy her lunch or something). We are a group of 4 couples who've started our own club. It's much more embarrassing when you haven't lost weight in front of friends than at SW or WW.

Stewed fruit & porridge for breakfast to warm you up & stop snacking

Lots of herbal tea to replace the water you won't feel like drinking

I have bought Insanity. Am a bit scared to start it but am 40 in 3.5 months and need 1.5 st off by then. On the Insanity FB page there is a graphic that says "Summer bodies are made in the Winter".

I keep motivated by wanting to be as healthy as I can be, and to live as long as I can.

Exercise, then you can eat more hot stodgy food without putting weight back on!

I love going running in the evenings in winter along roads of terraced houses, you can see in peoples' front rooms and get decorating ideas as you go. Makes it much more interesting. Plus the exercise warms you up.

Well done on the weight loss btw, 3 stones is really good going.

I do SW and have lost 4st this year. I still have all the lovely warming stews and soups. I can also have syn free rice pud and other winter puds.
Ive got an exercise bike that I use to hang washing on
On Daybreak they have a new little black dress diet, with 10x3 minute workouts on. You can do as few or as many as you like depending on time.
The best advice I got was to imagine how good I feel when the scales show a loss and is that cake, packet of crisps etc really worth it?
Stick with it over winter and think how fab you will feel next summer.

Soup for lunch is the key, it may get a bit dull but it's effective.

FracturedViewOfLife · 15/11/2013 13:14

My Fitbit makes me get up and walk/run when I really don't want to. Can't have low numbers!

No tips just wanted to say well done on losing the weight you have so far.

Latara · 15/11/2013 13:37

I think about Christmas parties and summer and going out - and how bad I'm going to look if I don't lose the weight.

Also about how good it will be to be just generally fitter and to look good in a smart coat and boots. (layers add bulk over winter and lots of boots only fit slimmer legs anyway - so the thinner the better IMO.)

I've got 2 stone to lose as well, losing 3 stone is really good - well done.

ThermoLobster · 15/11/2013 13:48

I agree with soup for lunch and hot drinks to keep hunger at bay.
We are having stodgier dinners without starchy bad carbs. So we have had moussaka, chicken curry with cauliflower 'rice' (lovely actually) and we have started doing salmon with roasted beetroot which feels really like comfort food but v healthy. Have also done things in the slow cooker with butter beans or sweet potatoes, as opposed to normal potatoes. Getting a veg box has helped I think, as you feel more wintery by eating winter vegetables. You have done very well so far!

It's so difficult to peel yourself off the sofa on dark, cold nights, isn't it?

I'm a member of a running club. I joined knowing that unless I had company, there was no way I'd go out on my own in winter. I really recommend it. It's not just Olympic athletes, there's a wide range of abilities. I'm not saying that I look forward to going out every time, but I know that I will feel fantastic afterwards. The social side is lovely, too.

Also, when you are exercising regularly, you just want to eat healthier food. I can't explain why, but it really helps me to stay off the biscuits.
