Brushing hair in public places? The stuff on our heads?

Is it that my Mother just annoying me? or is it bad manners to bring out ones hair-brush and give it a good going over...whipping it in to a fluffy ball-no matter where you are?

The cafe,

The street?

The bus?

This is a lady who prides herself on good manners. When she does this though, she seems to have no respect for those sitting behind/around her?

I am positive she would have told me not to do it when I was younger

I think it should be done in the powder -room

I've seen women doing this in the gym, making a big performance of putting their hair up whilst walking on the treadmill.
The message seemed to be 'look at my gorgeous long hair, I'm so much better than you with your inferior short hair'

Extravagant public personal grooming is surely done to draw attention to one's appearance ?

This is not just routine maintenance, there's much flicking and tossing and displaying of the locks going on

Nope it's entirely routine maintenance. And you can do it very discretely. My work would not be happy if I spent so long in the toilets redoing my hair. People eat on trains and I'm veggie I don't wanna be near that but I don't say it's anti social cos it's not!

I wouldn't brush my hair in a café/restaurant etc. as that's a bit minging, but have no problem with giving my hair a quick brush on the street for example, don't see how two stray hairs of mine can be more objectionable than car fumes for example. I was at the train station this morning and the wind had made my hair like a whin bush so I gave it a quick whoosh and all was well again on my bonce. I don't stand there like a mermaid dreamily combing my hair.

Thants - given that there are plenty on here who do see it as antisocial, so you'll just need to accept that whilst some people don't mind others do. Maybe it's just something to bear in mind next time you're doing it - and maybe you could make sure that there's no-one in your immediate vicinity who might mind?

Don't veggies eat on trains too down your way? They do up here..

SirChen, I think Thants means that, being a vegetarian, she may find it unpleasant if people eat meat in a public place but she doesnt object because to do so would be unreasonable (?)

Speaking via my own vegetarian identity it has never occurred to me that I might object to people eating meat (I might think it a bit much if they were slaughtering and butchering right next to me)
