To like/want big piles of gifts under the tree at Christmas?

When the kids were little there would be dolls houses, car garages, boxes of lego etc all under the tree, it would look wonderful there were big boxes.

Now the kids are older, thomas sabo charms come in v small pouches, computer games are very small aren't they?

It just looks 'meh' - would I be very unreasonable to find big boxes and stick the small gifts inside so that I can still have wow under the tree?!?

I hear what you are saying. I love to see a big pile !

I know just what you mean.

DS is getting one present this year (he's 17) - it's expensive so he knows that's literally it.

It's fine, but I do miss the days of him coming down to find piles of exciting, unexpected things under the tree.

It's not even as if gifts from other people will be there - be both get vouchers (which we want), so all there will be is cards!

Yes - cash and cards great practical gifts - not good Christmas morning gifts!!!

Wrap the gifts in big boxes. Preferably with lots of layers of paper and tape Wink

I have fake presents under tree for the wow look. I also wrap the goodies I buy such as chocs and wine, so it looks good but also there for that last minute gift. My older dc generally know what the gifts are so hiding them in lots of wrappers and boxes would be pointless.

yes as it's a lovely time in your life when kids are little and no when you think of the bloody wrapp

thebody · 14/11/2013 12:54

bugger!!! wrapping paper, bloody batteries and that plastic with twisty things that cover each bloody toy and are impossible to open.

ShawnSpencer · 14/11/2013 12:59

I had forgotten about those twisty things - and haven't they started using little screws as well (what's that all about?!?)

My niece and nephew are 12 and 9 so are getting to that stage.

My sis bulks out the tree and stockings with a few bigger but cheap gifts like chocolate Santa, lynx deodorant set, selection box, puzzle books etc.

I hadn't even considered this. Sad
