to wonder why we've had amazing sunsets the last couple of weeks?

I live in south London and work in Croydon, in an office block on the 8th floor. The view is of suburban sprawl which I quite like and some south downs in the background and love working so high up.

The last couple of weeks we have had amazingly beautiful sunsets, the like of which I've only ever seen in tropical settings - rose pink, shocking fuschia, oranges, reds, blues, purples, all of which are against the backdrop of highrises!

Does anyone know why we've had such beautiful day-enders - is this something to do with pollution? Or maybe it's the time of year, and I'd never notice when working in central London as I'd never normally see the sky? Or climate change? Would love to know if anyone has an explanation.

End of the world.

For sure.

We get those sunsets all the time in Australia. Perhaps you've just never noticed if it's a new workplace or have you been working there for a long time? End of summer/autumn sunsets are usually best.

Amazing one earlier.

I do usually notice these things especially after grey November days.

As an atheist and mercenary animal lover I thinking of signing up for this scheme

SnapespeareSong · 13/11/2013 23:57

it was a beautiful stripy one tonight over south London :-)

I imagine it will like the Death Star vs Alderaan.

Volcanic erruptions push dust into the upper atmosphere making vivid sunsets all over the world. There has been activity recently

Rhythmisadancer · 14/11/2013 18:56

Are you in love?Smile That would explain it

Rubybrazilianwax · 14/11/2013 20:06

Explained here if anyone wants the science behind it for this time of year

ohmymimi · 14/11/2013 20:28

Thanks Ruby.

Don't know. But when I lived in NZ for a year, I thought they had amazing sunsets all the time. But it was actually because of Mount Pinatubo erupting.

wet weather and the bloody stupid clock change meaning the sunset is happening long before you go home.

pretty though!
