To complain about the postman?

For the fourth time in the past few weeks we have just received one of our neighbours post. I have chased the postman up the street each time to give it back. Some of the houses don't have numbers on (ours does) and I can understand human error but four times? And it's not always the same wrong address that's posted so it seems careless rather than a misunderstanding at what our address is iyswim.

The house next door to ours is empty so if our post is going through their door we won't get it back.

Should I complain? How do you go about it?

Could you ring your local post office and ask there?

Mouthfulofquiz · 13/11/2013 12:56

I am an expert on complaining about wrongly delivered post! If you google it there is a phone number you can call and speak to someone about it and they follow it up with the local sorting office.

Do complain, but I don't think that it is the actual postie's fault.

The letters are bundled at the sorting office and they just post them through the door.

Catching the postie before he or she goes is probably quite effective as they'll complain to the sorting office as well

Yes!

I had exactly the same problem for ages. When next door's dog ripped up my CRB certificate that had been posted through their door, I decided enough was enough.

I complained using the website and have had no more problems since...and that was about 5 months ago.

WorraLiberty · 13/11/2013 13:08

Yes it is the Postie's fault because they're supposed to look and check the address is correct before posting them through the door.

If too many letters are bundled wrongly, they complain to the sorting office (as you say).

RevengeWiggle · 13/11/2013 13:47

I don't know if it's a bundling mistake as they're not mixed in with my post, I'm getting a bunch of letters for another house and none of my own until I chase him down and swap them. Some days we get no post and I worry that it's gone into the empty house. I'll try and word my complaint in a way that doesn't drop the postie in it incase it's not his fault.

It could be like in my hubbys delivery office where they are so short staffed they keep gettibg temps sent from outside the area. Which means they turn up at a new office not knowing nyone or the area. They get given the mail pointed in the general direction they need to go and get told to get on with it.

Its not ideal and its annoying for the customers. However seeing as people dont want to work in a job where they are out in all weathers delivering mail in the conditions the posties have to work in. I`m sure people would comain loads more if rounds got failed so the mail didnt go out at all.

Trust me its no fun living with a postman who is due to finish at 3:30 and is still at work at 6:30 making sure everything is delivered.
