could you organise something to help with the Philippines disaster? Good list of organisations here

Non uniform day? Box collection? Just bringing in some money? 100 teddy bears? Anything will help :)

Can we do a quick MN campaign somehow?

I think most schools are tied into Children in Need this week.

LoopaDaLoopa · 11/11/2013 12:10

Oh, is that this week?

I'll try - we don't do Children in Need. I'll speak to the head.

MamaBear17 · 11/11/2013 18:18

Great idea!

Flossyfloof · 11/11/2013 18:22

Great idea but don't you think teachers have enough to do?

SpencerPercival · 11/11/2013 18:23

Lots of schools already have named charities they support for the year.

Continual badgering of parents via kids often annoys

Why teachers?

I disagree with asking for donations from parents through school children. Charity is not supposed to be forced.

Of course this is a very deserving cause and I think there is a place in schools for discussion about what has happened which may in turn inspire children to want to help. But I don't understand why you are targeting teachers unless you want to emotionally blackmail parents through their children.

Heartbrokenmum73 · 11/11/2013 19:12

I think it's an urgent and extremely worthwhile cause, but I think it's totally wrong for things to be pushed through schools. We've had a letter home today about wearing spots for Children in Need on Friday - so now I need to find spotty things for two boys, spotty things that are cheap, in a small town.

Enough on my plate thanks.

persimmon · 11/11/2013 19:15

Heartbroken I drew felt tip circles on an old T-shirt last year. Or you could get circular stickers and just bung them on.

Heartbrokenmum73 · 11/11/2013 19:16

Persimmon - oooh, stickers! Yes, thanks.

RegainingUnconsciousness · 11/11/2013 19:19

I'm going to start a swear jar in aid of shelterbox (local charity, currently supporting Syria and Phillipines among other areas).

We're CIN'ed up this week, but my foul mouthed but lovable groups might be able to raise a bit of cash.

youarewinning · 11/11/2013 19:24

When my DS had spotty day for CR I used an old white t shirt, some old white socks of mine and a dressing up tie her had - and a 99p packet of circular shiny stickers from the 99p store. He loved making it!

I think it is a good cause - but agree why teachers? Surely any community, person, community group could do something? I think its worthwhile it being referred to in assembly though - as with any major (inter)national disaster.

youarewinning · 11/11/2013 19:25

Whoops - I was being persimmons parrot then!

Bowlersarm · 11/11/2013 19:28

Teachers are called upon a lot on MN for this that and the other.....

It's a good appeal, but I don't think yet another onus should be out on teachers personally.

Eeek Heartbrokenmum - I know my school has sent out the same request today too - spots or stripes. I does feel too late, hoping out parents are not too cross. TBF it isn't anything to do with my role. We, the staff, had suggested simply PJs s at least all children are likely to have them.

As others have said - this week many schools are already committed to CIN.

We struggle to do too many fundraiser events each year as it becomes too much for parents.

SilverApples · 11/11/2013 19:36

Parents and a cakes or biscuit stall is a great idea, greed is always a moneyspinner.
Parents could organise it.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 11/11/2013 19:37

Bit bizarre to ask this of schools I think.

I honestly think that for something like this disaster, people will just put their hands in their pockets rather than there needing to be a big fuss made.

CIN/Sport Relief etc are different because they support ongoing projects and people do need reminding of the benefits and awareness needs raising each time.

rabbitlady · 11/11/2013 19:38

i don't have a tutor group so i'm scuppered for that. but, i'll support anything that comes up.

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 11/11/2013 19:39

I love non-school uniform days. 1 less thing to do in the evenings.

SilverApples · 11/11/2013 19:40

The Philippines is a Catholic country, perhaps all those Catholic schools who don't support CIN or RND could make a major effort? Linked to the churches?

Heartbrokenmum73 · 11/11/2013 19:46

Hulababy - best part of our letter is that DS gave it to me and huffed about having to wear spots. Read the letter and discovered the spots things was decided by school council at todays meeting. Guess who's on school council? Yep, DS...
