Sorry but I have already eaten a box of mince pies and watched Elf today and I enjoyed it.

I watched Elf yesterday and ate my first mince pie! Grin
LOVE Elf.

  • Treat every day like Christmas.
  • There's room for everyone on the nice list.
  • The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing LOUD for all to hear Grin
MrsBungleScare · 09/11/2013 21:43

I think yabu. It's only 6 ish weeks til Xmas.

nancy75 · 09/11/2013 21:45

Prime time tv advert cost an absolute fortune, as does the production of many of the adverts. If the shops didn't get results from ads this early they wouldn't be on tv.

SmiteYouWithThunderbolts · 09/11/2013 21:45

Ohhhhh bah humbug to all of you! I love Christmas and am embracing any opportunity to get festive. I don't have my tree up yet but one of my friends does.

I've already baked and eaten two batches of mince pies. Just to trial the recipes, of course. And I may have put Christmas music on earlier. And watched Elf this morning.

Even my children despair of me. My eight year old son said to me last week "Mum, you're basically just a massive kid about Christmas, aren't you?".

PetiteRaleuse · 09/11/2013 21:47

Yanbu. Drags it out too long, by the time Christmas actually happens we're all fed up of it. Ditto for Christmas music and decorations in shops bah humbug.

superstarheartbreaker · 09/11/2013 21:54

Like i said...I love it...in December where it belongs..

That's just it, isn't it? Companies ARE going to put their adverts on the telly now when everyone is in the middle of or thinking about doing their Christmas shopping.
Why would they do it in December when everyone's finished or nearly finished?!
Wouldn't make sense!

jellyboatsandpirates · 09/11/2013 22:01

I went for a long browse round the Christmas shop yesterday that's popped up in town just to stand and listen to the Christmas songs. Blush
Well, they're not playing anywhere else yet and I wanted to hear them!!!
I'm 36 but you'd think I was 6

Strumpetron · 09/11/2013 22:03

Agree 100%. I've had a rant on facebook about it. It ruins the magic of it, by the time christmas actually comes we're all bored and sick of the site of it. We should all be getting excited now bonfire night and halloween is over with, awaiting december to start the countdown. but nooo shops are forcing it on us already/

southeastastra · 09/11/2013 22:06

the ads are annoying me already. on mn it makes me laugh when people put up their trees really really early then take them down on boxing day Grin

Screamqueen · 09/11/2013 22:06

Bored and sick of Christmas? Never! It just makes the anticipation even better.

jellyboatsandpirates · 09/11/2013 22:07

It's the tail end of November soon though. Stands to reason they'll be advertising their wares now as everyone is thinking of Christmas shopping!
Bloody card shops on the other hand - even I say there is absolutely no need for Christmas cards in there at the end of feckin' August.
The sun's beating down inside! People are on their summer holidays! Feck off and come back in October/November!

Strumpetron · 09/11/2013 22:07

I absolutely love christmas. I mean I go crazy for it. I'm the person in work who goes in with the 'do you like my baubles' jumper.

But celebrating too early ruins it.

jellyboatsandpirates · 09/11/2013 22:08

The sun's beating down inside!

Should read outside!! Ooops

Strumpetron · 09/11/2013 22:10

It's the 9th, hardly near the tail end. It's still the beginning of November, over a month away from christmas. I know why the shops do it, it doesn't make it less annoying.

We'd all object to someone putting their christmas decorations up now, it's the same with the shops and adverts and the like

jungletoes · 09/11/2013 22:11

The real Xmas message now is spend, spend and spend...

Strumpetron · 09/11/2013 22:18

You're right jungletoes.

I'm really excited as this is my first christmas in my 'proper'* home with my DP. Need to get a christmas tree yet, are they expensive?!

*aka not living with parents, not living with boyfriends parents, not living in sharehouse/caravan, and not alone in my old house

misspontypine · 09/11/2013 22:20

The days are getting darker and darker, we don't actually have much to look forward to apart from Christmas, I guess traditionally we would be making jam, baking, starting to make gifts, the giving aspect of Christmas is the most important part of Christmas, nowadays we just go and buy something but maybe emotionally we need the time of looking forward and thinking about giving and celebrating to get us through the time where the darkness gets more and more oppressive.

I havn't seen any Christmas adverts, I must go and YouTube some!

doolallylass · 09/11/2013 22:23

YANBU! Heard a friend say they had their first Xmas card today. Should all be banned til December, you know, the actual festive month!! Angry

nancy75 · 09/11/2013 22:24

Jungletoes, what other Xmas message would you expect from a retailer? It is the aim of their company to get people to go in and spend money, goodwill to all men won't pay the staff or the rent on the shop.

fatlazymummy · 09/11/2013 22:25

I don't watch any adverts. I change channels when adverts come on or get up and do something else, so I don't care what they're about.
As far as displays in shops, well I'd rather see christmas trees and decorations in November than more empty shops through the rest of the year.

fifi669 · 09/11/2013 22:30

If they want to start advertising now... Fine. But make them wintery instead if Christmassy.

I know a lot of people that think it's only Christmas when you see the coca-cola advert.... It was in tonight. Ruined. I actually messaged them in disgust! may have done it last year too

Strumpetron · 09/11/2013 22:33

nancy I'm pretty sure she meant the christmas message as a whole.

NipLash · 09/11/2013 22:49

YABU. It's only 6 and a bit weeks til christmas. The shops need to influence us NOW, as many people are starting their christmas shopping or have already started!

usualsuspect · 09/11/2013 22:51

YABU.

Shops need to cash in on Christmas.
