to be freaked out by hair loss

DC1 born 13 weeks ago. I always used to moult a fair bit but noticed that this pretty much stopped when I was pg and my hair went thick. Started losing again soon after birth but last two weeks my hair has been falling out significantly-keep finding hair on the floor/in my food/in DC's cot etc. Way more than it ever did. Loads comes away when I brush or wash... Looks and feels thin already and am wondering how much more there is to come and can anything be done...?
I keep telling myself it's catching up after 9 months' non-moulting but it's freaking me (and dh!)out? Aibu or do I just need to stop worrying, get on with it and hope it sorts itself out before too long... Those who've lost all of their hair for medical reasons feel free to tell me IABU.

It's normal, sorry

Beamur · 09/11/2013 18:27

It is quite normal, but go and see your GP if you're worried. Normal cycles of hair loss are linked to the immune system, while you're pregnant your immune system is suppressed (so your body doesn't reject your baby) so once it goes back to normal - like you say, it catches up with 9 months worth of business.

It is normal. If it continues, or starts up again in a few months, have your thyroid checked. My hair loss continued unabated after pregnancy, and it turned out I had Hashimoto's (autoimmune thyroid condition, often triggered by having a baby).

It's called 3 month mange and is totally gross normal.

FamiliesShareGerms · 09/11/2013 18:44

It's normal but I'm a moult-y person too but have recently started using L'Oreal shampoo and conditioner for fragile hair prone to falling out. Wow. I don't normally see much difference between shampoos, but this range is awesome: I noticed a difference after one use, and after a month or so my hair is noticeably thicker, presumably because I'm not losing so much hair.

I'll try to find a link

I can't say that my hair is particularly shiny, but otherwise the claims seem to be true with this shampoo

It does get better! I went bald a bit at the sides after the baby, then that started to grow back, then I was really poorly with a bug and it fell out again so I have two different lengths of funny fluffy fringe!!! At least it's growing back though!! Hang in there - you won't be follicularly challenged forever :-)
