Obviously he eats 'normal' food as well but he still loves those cow and gate fruit purees and eats them for pudding sometimes instead of a yoghurt. Should i still keep buying them for him? age is to 36 months on the carton but note sure what the significance of that it - he does eat unpureed fruit as well. I'm thinking at some point he will refuse to eat what is thought of as 'baby food' but i could still be feeding him these when he's 18!

DS has fruit purees in his lunch box sometimes. You might find supermarket fruit squeezy things are cheaper than C&G though.

RandallFloyd · 09/11/2013 10:50

If he eats un-puréed fruits the I personally would stop with the pots, purely because there's no point in them.

If it was the only way to get some fruit into him then I'd carry on.

RandallFlloyd> He kind of has them almost like a treat though- in the same way he would perhaps have a moose for pudding sometimes.

yabu as they are so expensive for what they are. If he likes pureed fruit how about making him smoothies or pureeing (sp?) some fruit and mixing with yogurt etc

CailinDana · 09/11/2013 10:53

I had to give DH a talking to for stealing ds's fruit purees! My ds (3) still sometimes eat the jars of mushed up food for dinner when he's not in the mood for anything else. I don't see why it could be a problem.

We were given tons of apples this year by people with apple trees. I've peeled, cored, stewed and pureed them, put them in pots in the freezer and we will take them out for treats and packed lunches.

I love pureed fruit. There doesn't have to be a point to it. It's just a nice treat which is also healthy.

I usually have some pots of apple and pear puree (baby food) in the cupboard to use as apples sauce with roast pork but I can't help sneaking one now and then as a treat.

When my parents lived in Holland they used to bring me big jars of pureed apple home. It's people food over there rather than just baby food.

If he likes it let him have it.

I don't see the harm, my DS is 13 now and will still pinch his toddler sisters' fromage frais pots which are marketed as good for weaning Smile

I have come across a couple of grandads who eat these! They're no different to a Fruit Corner or jam really, are they?

MrsBungleScare · 09/11/2013 10:58

My 4 yo still regularly has fruit pouches as a treat. She likes to suck it out of the pouch.

Dobbiesmum · 09/11/2013 10:59

Goldmandra that's a brilliant idea, we don't use a lot of apple sauce and a proper jar goes to waste. I should get a few of those pots in instead!

heidihole · 09/11/2013 10:59

No harm in it all!

Artandco · 09/11/2013 11:01

I think it's fine. We often buy to put on porridge if low on time.

However a favourite here is simply stewed apple and pear ( just cut not blended) with frozen yogurt/ ice cream. Which is easy to do as can make in bulk and freeze and everyone ( adults also). Would he like something similar?

Sieveoooplay · 09/11/2013 11:03

My nearly 7 year old still eats the organix crisps and rice cakes.

RandallFloyd · 09/11/2013 11:07

Oh I certainly don't think there's any harm in giving them to him.
I was just thinking that if he'd eat the fruit whole there didn't seem much point in buying puréed as well iyswim.

But if he sees them as a treat then crack on!

(They've got the Organix ones in The 99p Store at the moment btw. I bought a stack of them yesterday.)
