to have spent £35 on 6 dinosaurs for DS's birthday?

DH seems to think so Sad

I bought 6 Schleich dinosaurs (he loves them, always wants to play with them when we go to Waterstones), which I'm going to put in a bucket and present to him like Harry and the Dinosaurs. He will be 5.

I thought I got them for a good price off amazon, but DH is aghast I spent that much on some plastic dinosaurs. Now I feel bad. Are Schleich dinosaurs not worth the money? They look amazing though.

That's our only present to him. In-laws got him a box of Lego and my parents a Octonauts Gup as requested by DS. That is all, although we are paying out for a party for him for 15 children, which will be expensive.
We can afford it, that's not the problem. DH just thinks £35 for 6 dinosaurs is a rip off.
AIBU to think that DS will get hours of enjoyment out of this (and also his younger sister) and it will be worth it Hmm...

It's fine. You have the money, your ds will have a high quality toy and get loads of use out if it.

choceyes · 07/11/2013 11:37

I initially just wanted to get him about 3 of them, but I got overexcited and ordered double!
By comparison, you have totally got a grip and a sense of proportion - ahem...I won't be telling you how much I'm having to fork out for the party...definitely the LAST time I'm doing this kind of party..next time it'll be take a few friends to the cinema and pizza type affair.

They do seem pretty indestructible and DD 3, is also going to love them and all you lot are saying they are fab, so I feel a bit better now. Thanks!

Are you me? I did this last night. ELC were doing 3 for 2, plus 25 per cent discount and I was pretty pleased. They are wonderful toys.

Idespair · 07/11/2013 11:37

Am interested in the iPad thread though !
Which topic is it in??
I didn't know iPads could cost £700.

squoosh · 07/11/2013 11:39

I found it, it's an eye opener the amount of expensive gadgets some kids have!

needasilverlining - wow that sounds like a great deal. I didn't look on ELC...off to look now hoping that I've not paid over the odds

Choceyes - if you were heading online to elc and wanted to order, I have a 25% discount code you can have

clubnail · 07/11/2013 12:26

Has anyone found anywhere better value than Amazon for Schleich dinosaurs? Or schleich in general? Thanks.

Scrounger · 07/11/2013 12:30

YANBU they are beautiful and all my children (and DH and I) love them. They get played with a lot and I'm keeping them for any grandchildren.

Canidae · 07/11/2013 12:39

Just got to say that putting them in a bucket like 'Harry and his bucketful of dinosaurs' is such a cute idea!

choceyes · 07/11/2013 13:05

CSIJanner - thanks! It does work out slightly cheaper at ELC with the 3 for 2 offer plus a 25% discount, but DS's birthday is tomorrow so it's too late now, but never mind, thanks anyway.

Canidae - thanks. I hope he likes them!

Schleich cost a fortune because they are quality, highly detailed toys. DS has a tonne of them, the really large ones, and they are £26.99 each in our toy shop. The fact that you've got 6 for £35 means your DH should be skipping with joy!!! Actually, they're heavy old things, maybe put them in the bucket and swift clout to his head Wink

BinksToEnlightenment · 07/11/2013 13:48

It sounds like a lovely present at a fair price to me.

Ifcatshadthumbs · 07/11/2013 13:52

I think it's fine. We have loads of Schliec animals and I have to say they are money well spent, they go in the bath, the garden, the sand pit, to the beach everywhere! We've had them nearly 8 years and they're still going strong they are the one thing I shall keep forever for future grandchildren!

choceyes · 07/11/2013 14:23

Now you lot are making we want to buy even more of those dinosaurs, there seems to be so many different kinds!
I will resist however Grin
Never thought of playing with them in the bath, great idea!

This thread has made me want to expand our collection to dragons too! Hoorah for Christmas Grin

Even my 8 year old can't resist playing with them in the bath.

FuckingFuck · 07/11/2013 14:36

Yanbu £35 sounds totally reasonable for a birthday present for a 5 year old and they are good quality and will be much loved and appreciated by the sounds of things!

ShadeofViolet · 07/11/2013 14:40

YANBU.

DS has quite a few. They are pricey but the detail on them is amazing.

mrsbabookaloo · 07/11/2013 14:43

Haven't read whole thread but we love Schleich at our house. I obsessively keep the Schleich animals separate from the lower quality plastic animals (loser), and the children have observed that cheap ones float in the bath, but Schleich sinks! We have tons of the animals and both dds, 4 and 7, are now getting into the fantasy figures and the knights and dragons. I love that they are realistic and non-gender specific toys and dd2 will play with them for hours.

They are expensive though, and each time you think you'll get 2 or 3 and it turns into 4 and you've suddenly spent over £20!!

We now have the catalogue which they will sit together and discuss!
