To laser my (crap) tattoo off?

Help me out people, my DS (nearly 4) has put me on a massive guilt trip & now I'm not sure what to do.

I have a quite a large, very 90s style tattoo on my arm, which I had my first laser removal treatment on last week. The plan is/was to lighten it up enough that I can have a new & much more lovely design over the top. However... When DS noticed it looking red & scabby after the treatment he asked what was wrong, so I explained. and told a little fib when I said it didn't hurt He gave me the full wobbly lip & big sad eyes treatment saying 'but I don't want you to get a new tattoo, I like THIS one!', thus instantly making me feel horribly guilty. He's repeated this several times since (including just now while going to bed), out of nowhere.

I don't want to traumatise the poor child, but I don't want to be stuck with a rubbish (and now partially removed!) tattoo either! It's my skin, right?? But I know that if he's upset by my new ink I'll feel bad whenever I look at it. What to do??

When I was a kid I was distraught when my grandad shaved off his moustache and demanded he put it back immediately. He was unable to comply, the bastard, but I have forgiven him. Your DS will forget all about it soon enough but I do think incorporating strawberries for him is very sweet!

I wouldn't give it too much thought, he's 4, it's what he's used to, it's not a direct reflection on the tattoo, it's just what he's accustomed to his Mum having. When I was little I used to get really upset if my Mum changed her hair style or colour because she didn't look like 'my' Mummy any more. I got over it within about 10 minutes. I'll wager he'll be just as fond of the new tattoo as soon as he's had chance to get used to it.

He's 4 - he likes things to say the same, my DD had full on tears at about that age because a block of flats a few streets away was being knocked down and she'd never see them again Hmm lol

he is four and doesn't like change. He does not get to dictate your appearance

I used to get upset if DDad got new glasses. I think DCs do like parents to be the one totally constant thing in their lives.

They do get over it pretty quickly, most of the time.

DD2(12) still gets very huffy if I have stripes (proper foils at great expense) as apposed to dying my hair myself, which looks much more natural and boring .

My 2 older kids picked out my tattoo when they were younger. And its a might fine dragon on my leg.Its probably better than the one i would have pickedGrin

When I was four I got really upset that the surgeon had used black thread to sew up my mam's leg. I think once it looks less painful and becomes the new normal he'll be fine.

Aww, thanks ladies! You have all confirmed what my head has been saying i.e. 'don't be dictated to by a 4 yr old!', whereas my heart says 'look at his little face, don't you just want to give whatever makes him happy, regardless of your own selfish plans? No?? You evil woman, you!'

Anyway, it's too late now, tatt is knackered. The wheels have already been set in motion. Toughen up, Chuck! Grin
