To have not nothing for fireworks night?

FlobberWobber · 05/11/2013 20:25

Our DC are 2, 5 & 8 and I haven't taken them anywhere for fireworks night, they are tucked up in bed. I actually forgot it was fireworks night until this afternoon & then didn't really want to take them all out on a school night. DH has only just got home from work so I would have had to take them alone anyway.

Feeling a bit bad now though... Sad

No yanbu.

I took my youngest (2yo) to the end of the street. Its to cold to enjoy it.

They wont be scarred for life, dont worry :)

FlobberWobber · 05/11/2013 20:34

Ah thanks, feel like I've cheated them a bit!

we've never taken ours anywhere but dh did get a few for the back garden. It is dd's birthday today too so we normally feel the need to do something to celebrate it

LoganMummy · 05/11/2013 20:40

Sparklers in the garden tomorrow?

FlobberWobber · 05/11/2013 20:41

That's a really good idea Logan, will pick some up

DS (2y 8m) is asleep in bed and I am quietly fuming on the sofa every time a firework goes off... There will be PLENTY of other occasions for your children to enjoy fireworks. Waikiki beach was lovely on our honeymoon, but I bet the locals there get fed up too!

DavyCrockett · 05/11/2013 20:50

I didn't want to either, but we never do, apart from going to top of a hill to watch from afar, which is Ok...

I never like to go out after we get back from school tbh. It's cold!

We went up the road to big display but it was short and expensive and not sure we saw any more than from the street tbh, I wish I hadn't - it was an exercise in placating ds1.

Also v crowded and thousands of people, did not like that at all. I am NOT doing it next year.

Sirzy · 05/11/2013 20:51

I hate fireworks, DS has bad asthma - we did nothing and I don't feel guilty at all.

mrsjay · 05/11/2013 20:54

we never used to do anything till dd2 was about 8/9 i wouldnt take wee ones out, they have gone to a display i hate fireworks so me and the dog are in jumping every time one goes off, Op it doesn't matter not really

Bowlersarm · 05/11/2013 20:57

I haven't heard any fireworks tonight. We are rural, but heard loads last Saturday. Maybe there will be more displays on Friday or Saturday you could go to?

Coveredinweetabix · 05/11/2013 20:59

We're off to one on Sat. Haven't been to a mid week one since I was a student.

itsnothingoriginal · 05/11/2013 20:59

We did sparklers only and DC seemed happy with that. DD not sure about loud fireworks and our poor kitten is already terrified of all the noise so didn't want to add to it.

YANBU and don't feel guilty about it either Smile

MamaBear17 · 05/11/2013 21:02

We took our dd into the garden to look at a neighbours (a street down) fireworks. DD (2) asked if we could go back inside and dh asked her if she liked the fireworks. Her reply was 'yes, I like them but I like them when the door is closed and we are looking out the window'. She clearly takes after me!

gorionine · 05/11/2013 21:07

YANBU
Dcs are 7, 9, 12, 14 tonight was their first proper Bonefire night out. It was lovely but DD4 started getting quite tired by half 7.

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 05/11/2013 21:12

Yanbu not to do bonfire night.

I love it and as a family of 29 it works out really cheap to do bonfire night.

pianodoodle · 05/11/2013 21:12

I'm from N.Ireland and every year since I've lived in England I forget about the 5th Nov.

I always wonder what's going on then remember Grin

It always seems lovely and quiet on the 11th July though :)

ImaginativeNewName · 05/11/2013 21:17

We've been out late at displays the past two nights and I know my two are going to be exhausted and naughty tomorrow.

You did the sensible thing. Grin

TeaJunky · 05/11/2013 21:18

We didn't do anything either and thank God we didn't - just popped my head around dd1's door and she was all huddled under her duvet with just her head popping out, and when she saw me she tearily squeaked 'i don't like the noises!' Sad

She's now sat in a blanket on sofa with us (and dd2 crawling around completely oblivious to any noisesSmile)

Ragwort · 05/11/2013 21:21

Hasn't been mentioned in our house & we have a 12 year old Grin - I loathe fireworks nights, standing around in the cold, damp air, squealing at a few catherine wheels just does not sound like a good way to spend an evening !

dementedma · 05/11/2013 22:23

Nah, we've done nothing and Ds aged 11 hasn't even bothered to watch out of the window at any in the park. We went to the local organized display last year and it was cold, wet and very crowded for about 5 minutes of fireworks.
Bah humbug I say.
