To think Krishnan Guru-Murthy shouldn't use the D word on telly?

Eight out of 10 Cats. Krishnan was asked about a Royal reception with Camilla and Charles. He said C & C were soon off on a tour to India so to get them in the mood they'd invited some "British darkies" round.

Surely that's not okay? Are we back in 1975 and I haven't noticed? I feel like I want to complain, maybe I've just had a sense of humour bypass.

I'm going with bypass. I'd assume a nod towards some members of the royal family being horrifically racist and culterally insensitive. Hence stating not only the 'need' to aclimitize but the politically incorrect description. Didn't see it to pick up the tone though.

BOF · 03/11/2013 23:57

I'm sure he was satirising the outdated colonial attitudes of the aristocracy.

ScarletLady02 · 04/11/2013 00:10

I haven't watched this weeks but I've seen him on there before and he's always come across as very witty and funny to be honest...I'm sure he meant it in the way BOF is describing.

Frostedloop · 04/11/2013 00:13

In that context I don't see a problem

LoopaDaLoopa · 04/11/2013 00:14

Witty, that's all. If Charles were to say it, then you should complain.

BumPotato · 04/11/2013 00:15

Oh he always comes across to me as a tedious know it all. I think I'm not alone in that going by other panellists faces when he is on one of these shows.

Ah I quite like him Grin

Although my heart will always belong to Sean Lock

BumPotato · 04/11/2013 00:20

Ah so it is funny then? I'm probably biased because I think he's a tit. Someone I know shared a flat with him in Glasgow years ago. He was very anti-Scottish back then so I've always growled a bit when he comes on the telly box.

Sean Lock's face every time KGM spoke was a picture. Though see my above post, I'm probably reading too much into it.

I saw Sean a couple of week back live and he was excellent. He does some fabulous rants.

I really like him. Humour is a funny thing though isn't it? DH loves Vic Reeves and I just don't get it.

ScarletLady02 · 04/11/2013 00:26

I've never seen Sean Lock live but I've seen his DVDs. I love him, I love a bit of surreal humour so love Bill Bailey (who I have seen) and Ross Noble. Me and DH always do Sean Lock's "Mr Jangles" impression from 8 out of 10 Cats

BumPotato · 04/11/2013 00:28

I agree. You can't help what you find funny, any more than what you find offensive.

I saw BB this year too. I've seen him live countless times, I'm always in bits with him. I like Dylan Moran too, a lot.

BlatantRedhead · 04/11/2013 00:32

I didn't see it but would assume it was a jibe directed at the Duke of Edinburgh and several others who's opinions on other cultures appears to belong back in the stone-age.

BlatantRedhead · 04/11/2013 00:32

Oh right.. Threads moved on... Blush

BumPotato · 04/11/2013 00:37

I understood the jibe. He's evidently not that bothered by the Royals' inherent racism, as that afternoon he'd been at the reception hosted by C&C. Seems two faced to me. I didn't appreciate the language he used either.

JumpingJackSprat · 04/11/2013 00:49

Did you see the episode where aisling bea made him look like a bit of a tit?

BumPotato · 04/11/2013 00:55

Will have to check that one out.

braininabox · 04/11/2013 06:13

not sure about KGM but Sean Lock is supposedly an absolutely humourless, nasty prick when off camera. I have to be honest I like 15 storeys high but hate everything he does on his own (benedict wong fan)
