To wish the fireworks would stop

Yes I know it's Divali.

Yes I know it's Bonfire Night on Tuesday.

I'm just fed up of all the banging and squealing and screeching and I want it to stop.

Either that or to be put in a soundproof room until it's over.

I love a good firework display, but I'm getting fed up with general public setting them off.

We've just had 15 minutes of them going off. It's 11pm on a school night! It's been dark since around 5.

Both kids woken up and a terrified dog

willowash · 03/11/2013 23:57

There still going off here Angry. Currently have my scared and overtired dd cuddled up next to me, luckily my 8 year old can sleep through it.

Greydog · 05/11/2013 19:00

Fucking hell fire - judging by the explosions out there tonight they must be mining the roads and blowing up the bridges. It's like the sound effects for a war film.

KissesBreakingWave · 05/11/2013 19:07

They're wearing a bit thin with me. I'm getting Vietnam flashbacks and the nearest I've been the place is watching Full Metal Jacket.

AChristmassyJerseySpud · 05/11/2013 19:09

Fireworks make me feel stabby.

And the kids running screeching around the estate in their pjs do as well.

Fucking hate bonfire night and halloween.

Greydog · 05/11/2013 19:12

apparently you can buy a "call of Duty" firework which sound like rapid machine gun fire. What sort of fuckwit would buy it. The idiot at the end od the road I guess. There are horses in a field near me - I hope they are OK - will go out later

LaurieFairyCake · 05/11/2013 19:12

It's very loud here so I've got the tv on loud so that my lovely cats and dog stop being terrified.

wamabama · 05/11/2013 19:14

I never liked fireworks much as a kid tbh. Always found them dreadfully monotonous and not worth being stood out in the cold for. They all look the same.

They scare animals and some young children, they injure and cause fires meaning the emergency services are put out and they disturb everyone who isn't out setting them off. They're SO loud. I don't mind public displays on special occasions so Diwali, Bonfire night and New years only. Otherwise there's no fucking need. The thing that gets to me the most is that it goes on for days and even weeks before and after the occasion as well. We have idiots here setting them off late at night, really pisses me off. Grumble grumble. I'm a big firework Scrooge.

HootShoot · 05/11/2013 19:15

It would be great if members of the public could only buy non bang fireworks. Or not buy them at all. I'm a fireworks grump too.

bigwellylittlewelly · 05/11/2013 19:20

I think that there should be a statutory firework period - 24 or 48 hours. Think thats how it is in Holland?

Fucking nuisance round here

jamdonut · 05/11/2013 19:27

I like organised displays, but from the moment fireworks go on sale, till the weekend after 5th November, fireworks go off round our way. And then again on New Years Eve!

I don't understand people with back garden ones. Can you not just wait till the 5th?? Do your kids pester you, or something,so instead of making them wait you give in?

And ,round our way, we can't even say it is to do with Diwali,as we just don't have that sort of "community". Hmm

LionelRichieAndTheWardrobe · 05/11/2013 19:33

There's someone in my neighbourhood either winding an old air raid siren or playing it through a loudspeaker.

onedogandababy · 05/11/2013 19:41

YANBU I don't mind the 'pretty' ones that go up with a little whistle, but the full on bangers that make it sound like I'm being shelled - those can fuck off. And I don't agree with them being sold to anyone either.

Luckily my dd has nil reaction to them and has mostly slept through it and my dog - she's currently sound asleep at the far end of the sofa...I often wonder if her gundog pedigree is so ingrained in her that the bangs just don't bother her.

Can't imagine how cross I'd be if they were both terrified

killpeppa · 05/11/2013 19:41

you can all come to my houseGrin

I'm in Northern Ireland & we don't celebrate 'bonfire night'

Bosgrove · 05/11/2013 21:09

YANBU, I have three tired grumpy children here who haven't had a good night sleep for over a week with the constant bangs every night. I want to scream "enough now"....and it is only the 5th, so I expect lots more until after the weekend. Don't people realise that not everyone likes bangs and lights every night from dusk until nearly midnight.

notthefirstagainstthewall · 05/11/2013 21:13

You wouldn't even know it's the 5th of November here.

Slightly depressing actually as the estate was rammed with children in costume for Halloween. I like a bit of a firework display in the sky from a distance.

Joysmum · 05/11/2013 21:17

Anyone with young kids and animals would have sympathy.

My own personal bugbear is Chinese lanterns, I think they should be seen as littering. I've only got a 4 acre field but pic up loads of the things. They are a danger to anyone with livestock.

starsandunicorns · 05/11/2013 21:18

I have been home since 6pm and have had them no stop dog needs a wee but is scared to go out had a five min silence where I tried to coax her out but she saw one that was silent and bolted in the lounge and peed on the carpet whats worst is that they seem to echo around around here I have to be up at 6am work and didnt get much sleep last night sigh

Greydog · 06/11/2013 17:09

Just gone 5pm, and a fresh barrage has started - give me strength

Blippetyblip · 06/11/2013 19:30

Fireworks just started again here. It's the 6th night in a row with an upset dog. Fed up with it :(

Donkeyok · 06/11/2013 19:32

We had one go off in the school playground!

bellasuewow · 06/11/2013 19:46

They are for the most part antisocial I like the whole pagans element of it but a nice display is very different from knobheads setting them off in their garden pissed at 1am

Tinklewinkle · 06/11/2013 20:09

We've had them on and off since about 6 again tonight.

Last night, we had a Guy Fawkes competition, big torch light procession, bonfire, followed by an absolutely fantastic firework display at the village rec, hot dogs, hot chocolate, sparklers for the kids, all for the princely sum of £1.50 a head. All done and dusted by 8pm

Then some knobber sets a load of the bloody things off at just gone midnight. 20 minutes of horrendous bangs, but crap looking fireworks.

I love a proper organised firework display, but utterly fed up with dickheads setting them off at antisocial hours

No more please!!!

NoComet · 06/11/2013 23:01

midnight is not on, except on new years eve.

I love fireworks and will let my, anti social, box off sometime between now and Christmas (Not late, not even on NYE, up the road has a small baby and I'm not that antisocial).

Toadinthehole · 06/11/2013 23:35

Have fireworks got louder in the last 20 years?
