To not own a kettle?

I was just thinking this over. I don't drink hot drinks so don't currently have a kettle (old one broke and I didn't replace it). Family who come round have never made an issue of not having hot drinks but I'm starting to wonder if I should buy one for when they come over because they drink hot drinks all the time at home.

AIBU to not own a kettle?

Thanks for the replies! I think I'm going to get a cheapy one because I would like them to be comfortable when they come round. I'm thinking they may have been politely pretending not to mind after reading some of these BUT WHAT ABOUT THE TEA replies Grin I am going to shock them with the offer of hot drinks next time they are round after I've got one. Plus my laziness is tempted by this speedier water boiling for pasta and veg! I forgot I used to use one for that too Shock

i haven't got a kettle at the moment, I dropped the old one and haven't got round to getting a new one. I don't drink hot drinks either.
The last time i made a cup of tea for my mum - a couple of months ago - i checked the tea bags and noticed they went out of date in 2009 - i didn't realise tea bags even had a best before date!

When people visit me they tend to drink wine Grin

YANBU.

I drink hot drinks but I hate my kettle! They are ugly and take up too much bladdy room.

If I ever get a chance to re-do my kitchen, I'm getting one of those boiling water tap thingymagigs.

I.only drink tea (with milk), yet I have coffee, sugar, sweetner, assorted herbal teas all in as I like to be able to brew up for people that come round.

A friend of mine doesnt drink hot drinks so whilst she has a kettle, doesnt have tea bags. I dont mind, I take (and make) my own.

I would find it odd if you didnt even have a kettle thougg.

I find no kettle weird.

I use it for tea/coffee/hot chocolate. To boil veg or put in the steamer if steaming. I boil the kettle when I fill the mop bucket as it's just so much hotter than the hot tap and cleans better. It's also been a lifesaver when my boiler was on the blink and I had no gas (for stove top) and no hot water...it was the only way I could get warm water to wash us and the kids!

Why wouldn't you?!? lol

We don't have one, but we do have a boiling water tap which is brilliant. Not so great when it broke though....time to get a cheap kettle!

"Virtually no one has an electric kettle in the US and they all survive."

We had American visitors recently and when they saw how convenient an electric kettle was they decided to buy one as soon as they got home.

I use mine for:
hot drinks
making stock
making gravy
boiling water for pasta or vegetables
boiling water for home made soup
making a hot water bottle

I think you have to assume that most adult visitors appreciate being offered a hot drink. Just because you don't drink tea or coffee doesn't mean that you should appear inhospitable.

Those boiling water taps scare me. Yes I think its nice to have hot drinks on offer for visitors esp in winter.
