To think people are ruining Guy Fawkes?

Fireworks going off already here and it's a constant bang bang bang. I can hear next-door's dogs going crazy and goodness knows where my cat is.
Now I like fireworks as much as the next person but at this rate by the 5th (and beyond probably) I'll be sick of them.

AIBU to think that Guy Fawkes was more fun when it was one night that we all looked forward to then finished for another year?

we all went out on bonfire night even on a school night and was probably half 6 Grin it is so annoying when people insist on doing it a few days before or after because it is the weekend, it is dark by 6pm now

I love to watch firework displays and to a limited extent even like the bangs.

But I have no idea why the fireworks with loud bangs are freely available to the public.
Fireworks are mainly visual with maybe a background noise for effect. To have noise of war zone proportions is just madness . Why are me and mine being adversely affected just for the entertainment of a very small minority?

I never voted for that.Actually, in fact ,I would seriously vote for the party that outlawed this noise pollution.

I don't mind. I'm doing my fireworks on Monday night. Working a late shift Tuesday :(

In Ireland, fireworks are banned.

Unfortunately, this doesn't mean they're not around - it just means people buy dodgy ones from market stalls that have no safety testing from traders who will sell to everyone an anyone regardless of age and every year, around this time, there are stories of children hurt/scarred because of this.

I don't think a ban is the answer.

Yes I think the right occasions should be celebrated on the right day not halloween a week before, christmas even sooner and guy fawkes over a week.

As soon as things are in the shops people cant help themselves.

It's remember remember the 5th of November, not 'any old day that happens to be convenient' Wink

It's raining really hard here. It's the one time of the year I'd say this but I hope it continues for a week. Fireworks shouldn't be on private sale at all

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 02/11/2013 20:22

DH is very safe with fireworks, he even got a ignition system, so nobody has to get close to light them.

Fireworks in the wrong hands are deadly weapons.

I would like that people would have to have a licence.

Diwali last for five days in total. As it's the festival of light, fireworks are a big part of it. The area I live in has a huge Hindu and Sikh population, plus it is the weekend before fireworks night - this means we've got fireworks going off all over the place!

Writerwannabe83 · 02/11/2013 20:30

My neighbours are currently having a fireworks party and it is brilliant!! Me and hubby have glass doors in our living room that overlook into their garden so we are getting a great view!! And I'm absolutely loving the smell of them!!!

doyouwantfrieswiththat · 02/11/2013 20:31

when we were little we always had a Guy to put on the bonfire but apparently burning Catholics isn't the done thing any more... I agree with trying to keep certain dates special (now I can buy hot cross buns all year round they're not such a treat.)

CiderBomb · 02/11/2013 20:36

I'm sure when I was a kid that you only ever got fireworks on the 5th regardless of whether or not it was a school night. Now it seems to be the weekend before. It's annoying, it distresses animals. I like fireworks as much as anybody, but keep the for the 5th please.

TheArticFunky · 02/11/2013 22:13

We had our fireworks tonight. No time on a week day.

When I was growing up we had fireworks on 5th November never before and had a big bonfire and jacket potatoes in the gardens. The evenings were so much longer then. It's quite sad really.

MrsBucketxx · 03/11/2013 07:45

The articy your the problem.

Should be on the 5th or not at all.

TheArticFunky · 03/11/2013 11:53

I'm the problem Hmm. We let off 3 rockets and let the children hold some sparklers.

Most people have fireworks on the weekend closest to the 5th November. On Tuesday we will probably hear hardly any. Some of us do have jobs to go to you know.
