Booking seats A and C on a plane

Flying home alone on a long haul flight last night I was allocated a 'B' seat. I sat down and shortly afterwards a couple appeared and sat down in the A and C seats. It was obvious they were together, so I straight away offered to swap seats so they could sit together. They declined, saying "no we always do this'. They then spent the rest of the flight talking across me. I felt most uncomfortable and it was very difficult to relax, sitting in the middle of a conversation. Really unpleasant. I know that some people prefer window seats and some prefer aisle seats, but surely it's unreasonable to force a stranger to be piggy in the middle like that?

Calloh I now have a vision of the OP masturbating furiously to piss off the German couple... Grin

How rude and I would have told them to move if keep talking over me

Dh liked the window and I like the aisle but sat next door to each other ie a and b

Dp likes to look out the widow but also the aisle as is 6ft 4 and likes the stretch his legs so again I seem to end up in b

Maybe we need to book c and d and both get aisle

Or love 2 seater seats - he gets window and I get aisle Grin

anonacfr Grin I love the 'furiously'!

'or tell the airhostess'

What's she going to do? Grin

'Right, no more talking for the rest of the flight'!

Beccagain · 01/11/2013 22:56

outraged See my earlier post (about seventh on the thread) ...you could possibly get moved, or even bumped. Happened to me (though not for this reason!) Smile

Hmm we do this, partly because we hope the seat will be left free mainly because DH likes the window and I like the aisle. However we don't talk the entire flight - he gets stressed flying and I fine it very dull to listen to him saying 'what's that noise, that doesn't sound right the whole time'.

This is why we usually fly with companies who use airbuses who only have a 2-4-2 configuration.

Disclaimer - this was before we had DD, we now book 3 of the 4 middle seats and pray no-one turns up for the 4th!

Flora while not every airline will allow you to book a seat for an under 2, they will always allow you to pay for an extra seat (normally full price but occasionally AirNZ have only charged the 2-12yo price). If you pay for the seat, you get it.

Rather than booking A & C, risking a full flight with some poor sod stuck in the middle or on the end with a toddler, pay for and book all 3. No toddler going mental, lots of legroom for adults either side, easy to share toddler care between adults with one each side so both can have some time out - why would you not pay to ensure this?

Have done several long haul flights with children ranging from 9 months to 5, we always made sure we all had a seat each.
