To have a job interview when DS2 is only 8 weeks old?

DP lost his job 2 weeks ago. They won't give him a reference so he's fucked finding another job. I'm on mat leave and hadn't planned on going back until June.

Yesterday I decided to have a look at what was out there and saw the dream job of room manager in a purpose built nursery. Currently I'm in charge of the 2 year old area in a very small community nursery so it would be a nice step up but not so big I'm out of my depth.

They called me today and offered me an interview Thursday. Technically I could take DS2 to work with me and id just have to find a childminder for DS1 and DD if DP finds another job. It would be more money, better opportunity and something that I have wanted for a while.

If it was part time it would be perfect. Unfortunately it's full time and I know people have to go back to work sometimes when their babies are tiny but am I going to emotionally scar DS or affect our bond if I go back to work so soon?

Your DP needs to get in touch with his union.

I think it will be fine going back a bit earlier than planned - especially if you weigh up the extra time you will have with your baby over the next few years if you have this job - regular contact, shared commutes - over another.

He's not part of a union Hmm

Thanks. I'm bloody nervous about the interview. Hopefully I'll be good enough

I had an interview when DC1 was 6 weeks old.
(I was even head-hunted for that, mind-boggles)
Friend minded DS for the 3 hours.
I was a bit of a wreck & didn't get it.... but good luck. Learn from my mistakes. Prepare better than I did.

Go for it...I did an interview 8 weeks after her birth for job that I started when DD2 was 16 weeks. Not saying it was easy and I am in a high pressure area but ...

My only real disaster from that time relates to the interview day and has gone down in family legend as one if those funny stories you tell anout when the DC were babies etc...

If you're breast feeding here is my top tip to you.... .feed baby timed to finish seconds before you enter the building and wear double breast pads and a heavy dark jacket so if you leak it's less obvious.

Needless to say on my interview they were running late, by the time I got in to sit before the panel my boobs were bursting and I could sense my baby crying even though she was obviously not in the building, the nice linen jacket I was wearing had one dinner plate and one saucer sized wet patches on the front and I was holding an A4 folder across my chest at a bizarre angle to cover the right breast more because that one was springing like a tap at a faster rate than the left ... I got the job though.

Happy days!

Re your DP. He can still appeal this and while he may not want to work for them again at least get a reference relating to his competence in his area if work. Unless he was watching something offensive (porn, snuff movies, racist material) and/ or neglecting duties which may have endangered life a tribunal might feel he has been treated unfairly especially if there were others watching who have not received the same treatment. Owing 500 for compassionate leave given freely and taken prior to this event is also odd.
