to give guisers / trick or treaters only two or three sweeties?

...as in say a packet of haribos and a lollipop and a fun size choc bar?

I've got a bowl full of sweets and monkey nuts in preparation for tonight but the mistake I made last year was giving handfuls to the first guisers then we completely ran out of sweets. I guess I could buy more but TBH I have no idea what the average / normal amount of sweets to give them is!!!

Help?!

Jesus how much do they want? I only normally have one big bowl of haribo mini bags and normally the kids will take two bags or so each.

DanielHellHoundMcSpaniel · 31/10/2013 14:26

I always thought the idea was they take one each? We have a big bowl and I've never seen anyone take any more than that.

WholeNutt · 31/10/2013 14:26

I think that's plenty! I'm giving nothing I object to it and won't be answering the door tonight Smile

Tanith · 31/10/2013 14:27

Well I'm really mean, then - strictly one each!

DanielHellHoundMcSpaniel · 31/10/2013 14:28

I bet they all compared notes and sent all their little playmates to you as you were a soft touch? No wonder you ran out!

Half the joy of trick or treating is eating all the unclaimed sweets over the next few weeks to take us up to pre-christmas.

olibeansmummy · 31/10/2013 14:31

They'd get one (small) bag of haribo in this house!

Alexandrite · 31/10/2013 14:32

I was planning on giving one each. That's how many I let my own dds take. We only go to houses with Halloween decs/pumpkins

ilovepowerhoop · 31/10/2013 14:38

I made up bags the last few years but have decided not to this year so have got a box of assorted mini chocolate bars, lollies, etc and once they're finished so are we. I gave out about 80 bags last year and it cost a fortune so we are economising this year. Will limit to 1 or 2 per person.

lookoveryourshouldernow · 31/10/2013 14:40

... we had our Halloween little ones round last weekend and we got through 4 boxes of Heroes... mind you I think that there were around 130-150 kids in total though..

SofaKing · 31/10/2013 14:46

80 bags!! 130 kids!! I only have bags for about 30, after that I will have to pretend to be out or give up my own stash

We usually have about 20 to 30 kids but I take my hat off to you for having that many, it must be quite a challenge to get everything ready and hand it out!

Alexandrite · 31/10/2013 14:50

We only have about 12 kids max visiting. Are there some areas that are Halloween hotspots that parents drive children to to trick or treat?

EndoplasmicReticulum · 31/10/2013 14:54

We get loads here. We live in a village, there are 120(ish) children at the village school and I think at least half of them must come to our house at some point. I don't think we get trick-or-treat tourism, I recognise most of our visitors.

Round here if you have a pumpkin on display you'll get trick-or-treated.

ilovepowerhoop · 31/10/2013 14:55

we live on a housing estate that has streets full of school age kids so we do tend to know most of them. One year I was making up bags from sweets dd/ds brought back as we had run out. This year I'll just stick a note on the door when the sweetie box is empty

AuntieStella · 31/10/2013 14:56

I don't expect anything like those numbers!

I've got a couple of trays of Vampire bites, and when those run out I might have to blow out the Jack O'Lantern.

HalloweenHatingGrinch · 31/10/2013 15:37

How many are they expecting?! They get what they're given and all that! Smile
It's one each here, which is entirely reasonable the amount of small kids that come round in packs. If they took a handful each I'd be cleared out in 10 minutes flat!
One each. Any more is just greedy.

EyeOfNewtBigtoesOfFrog · 31/10/2013 15:44

Big bowl of things here, the things include things like mini foil-wrapped chocolate pumpkins/ghosties etc, chupa-chups-type lollies, and mini bags of spooky haribo. They are polite round here, they only ever take one thing each, until we're getting to the bitter end when I say they can have a handful to use it all up.

darkdays · 31/10/2013 15:45

I completely forgot! Will an orange or banana be ok? Blush

WooWooCaChoo · 31/10/2013 15:47

I've got looooads of treats and toys for the kids on our street cos they're all so sweet. Anyone else can just have a couple of packets each.

HorryIsUpduffed · 31/10/2013 15:49

One each, and nice manners or FTFO.

QueenMedb · 31/10/2013 15:49

Glad I saw this, as this will be my first year potentially having children coming to my door. I have a big box of Celebrations, and a bag each of fun size Twix and Maltesers. After that, I'm retreating to the back of the house with my jack o' lanterns!

RoxanneReidsChafingFishnets · 31/10/2013 15:51

Its normally one each from me unless you are really cute or your costume is amazing

InvaderZim · 31/10/2013 16:03

One! One thing each! Maybe two or three if small. If you are feeling stingy or you don't want them to rot their teeth (me) get them to hold out their bags/buckets and drop one in each.

I'm American and it's very interesting to see how Halloween is interpreted here!

rightthinker · 31/10/2013 16:06

I'm not sure

EndoplasmicReticulum · 31/10/2013 16:21

This year I've drawn the "go out with children" short straw, husband will be on treat-distribution duty. He's more generous than I am. I allow one each (accompanied by Teacher Stare).

fanoftheinvisibleman · 31/10/2013 16:24

One each given out and I always remind the children that I'm tqking out only to take one if sweets are offered up in a dish.
