AIBU about my cat?

Guest (work related) this eve - to prepare report.

Turns up 50 minutes late .

I ask if ok with cats "no" is the reply.

"Ok" I reply breezily and go to remove said cat.

"No no it's fine really I just hate them" I go to remove cat again who has returned - to reassurances they are not allergic and to leave cat in the room it's fine, but swears at cat under breath and sneers at it.

Throughout the evening of work they make kind of nasty faces at my cat making their hatred clear. I remove cat several times.

AIBU to think this is a bit rude? I am not keen on dogs (am scared) but if visiting a house where one lives I would do my best to not make my hatred of a family member quite so obvious.

It's true that they go straight for people who don't like them. A pal of mine has 5 and it's like sitting in a shark pool the way they all prowl around me. Then one trying to curl up on my boobs or lap.

It's their home though.. I don't visit much.

Ah yes, I had a friend at uni for a (short) while who hated cats. She came to my house once because she needed help with some work, and was constantly freaked and grossed out by my very sweet cats. She refused to sit on a chair that had cat hair on it, because it was 'disgusting' - everything has hair on it when you have furry pets! She was so rude, I couldnt really be bothered with her afterwards!

I'm like unicorns I like cats but I like breathing more. Can no longer visit cat-owning friend as the spare bed is also the sofa, where the cats sit and scratch and play. She thinks I am being over-dramatic .

Never met a cat that is an arsehole, Alpaca , met plenty of humans that are, though

DH used to 'hate' cats, until he lived with me and mine. Now they are thick as thieves.

I think being allergic to cats is a perfectly valid reason to avoid!

Like Alpaca says, cats interpret human cat hating behaviour as ultra-polite, so go straight over to the politest person in the room.

So rather than ignoring them I should seek it out and smother it in affection and it'll leave me alone?

Yes, I think that's actually right. Cats see looking at them and trying to get in their space as a sign of aggression (although socialisation with humans does affect this), so ignoring them comes across as being a polite visitor to their territory.

Awesome.. so that's catnip in a neighbors garden.. The husband peeing all over ours and lots of love.
