DS1 15 and DS2 12 to go 'trick or treating' with a gang of mates tomorrow?

For me Hallowe'en is for primary school age kids.. getting dressed up and wandering about locally, for 1/2 hr or so.

The idea of DS 1 who is HUGE and DS2 who is 5'5" and looks older and their mates banging on peoples doors asking for sweets with (implied) threats... NO. Its harassment and bullying.

DS1 is ok with the ban but DS2 is having a major strop.... so AIBU

YABU As long as they were dressed up and had jokes/song prepared, I'd happily give them sweets.

TBH I'd give adults treats too if they did the same!

SatinSandals · 30/10/2013 17:09

Strictly for the under 12 yr olds.
I shall put out my 'no trick or treating' notice after 7 pm.

teenagetantrums · 30/10/2013 17:14

this is depressing 'gangs or maundering teenagers' I live in inner city on a council estate i have never seen these gangs, here if you put a pumpkin outside you get trick or treaters if you don't want them no pumpkin simple. Really teenagers are not scarey.

thehorridestmumintheworld · 30/10/2013 17:23

It is a bit sad for your boy who is a bit big for it now but still wants to go, but I do agree they could be seen as intimidating to some ppl. I do think some other activity to make up for it would be nice, like a party or some other outing with a halloweeny feel to it.

ChunkyPickle · 30/10/2013 17:34

For as long as I remember, the only kids knocking on my door have been 12-15 year olds - I don't ever remember seeing someone under that age in fact!

I've never found them intimidating, but perhaps a bit cheeky...

Perhaps it's just the places I've lived have been a bit out of the way so the older kids are the only ones who make it out that far?

NoComet · 30/10/2013 17:39

Depends on who they are visiting, random strangers no, but mates with teen DCs why not.

My DD(15) was disgusted that people think teens are too old to trick or treat.

(She never has as we live in the sticks)

She generally thinks being grown up is overrated and is to be found up trees, swimming, having water fights or generally larking about.

NewtRipley · 30/10/2013 17:54

Ah, the teens round here do no harm, except if they ask for money. They like getting dressed up and they like sweets.

NewtRipley · 30/10/2013 18:00

I'd have a strict, early curfew though. And stern warnings about behaviour towards elderly people and young children, and not knocking on doors without Pumpkins
