Nearly 12 year old trick or treating alone at night?

Sorry I know there are other similar threads at the mo but I really want opinions please - AIBU to let my son (12 in December) trick or treat with two friends from 6pm - 8pm?

He goes out on his own a fair amount and we are very relaxed about it - he is sensible, mature and has a phone.

The bit that's slightly bothering me is him walking home alone after leaving his friends - a 5/10 min walk. Urban area.

Whattya think?

Completely disagree with all the bahumbugs on here. 12 is not too old to trick or treat 12 are kids, why are people so intent on making kids grow up so quickly. I trick or treated till I was 14 ( that’s the last time I can remember it) but I didn’t grow up in England and people welcomed trick or treating where I live. I don’t understand why so many are so miserable about it. Chill out let him enjoy it, meet him to walk home with him after. He won’t be young forever enjoy!

For god sake it’s not a gang .. stop being so miserable

Aww Bless him, they are only 12, I think it's cute that they still identify as kids and not moody arsed teenagers.

I'd have brought my pumpkin in by the time of night that older kids want to go out. Id only expect younger kids trick or treating.

Doesn't stop at Primary - whoever gave you that impression? We get children of 12/13 round our village every Halloween. Not a problem.

14 is too old, maybe.

But to answer your question, OP - could you not go and meet him if you are worried?

We are in Brighton and it doesn't seem to stop at 12, in fact loads of adults dressed up walking around, probably students. Some terrifying adults answering doors and my youngest was scared of them as were her friends and she was 11! One kept smacking her in the hand when she went in the sweet bucket to pick something. It seems massive here.

12 isn't too old for trick or treating! Since when was 12 too old to act like a child? I tell my kids to be kids for as long as they can. Play and be carefree. They have enough pressure to 'grow up' and get into adult things from school peers, without adults putting that on them!
Back to OP. Does he have a phone? Could he call you when they are finishing and you could go and meet him to walk home?

I was so confused when someone said I won’t be opening the door tonight, and then saw this is 10yrs old! Lol

Omg! All the bahumbug people on here. 12 is not too old to be trick or treating. Why are people in such a hurry to make kids grow up. However, maybe meet him to walk home with him after.

This thread is from 2013. The child is now a 22 year old man and hopefully not trick or treating.

It is maybe a bit old, but if that's normal for him and his friends, let them be kids for one more year....but set some ground rules. Ie. They can only knock on doors of people they know and he has to call you and speak to you on the way home after he leaves his friends. Or could you/partner meet him and walk him home once he and his friends are finished?
