to use my wedding dress for Halloween fancy dress?

I should state at the start that it is the dress I wore when I married my ex husband so no issues there for me. Also, the bodice is lovely and unmarked but the skirt is knackered, absolutely filthy (chucked it down on our wedding day) and has a fag burn in it (thank you pissed up ex BIL).

So, I was planning on shortening it to mid calf length, muckying up the skirt a bit more and with make up, a fake slit throat and dead flowers etc, go as a corpse bride. My mother is horrified! She said that I should save it incase the girls want to wear it but the skirt is beyond saving, so I would look after the bodice as that could be detached and used with a seperate or new skirt, but I see no issue in trashing the bottom of it.

I sold mine the other day after seeing a wanted ad on a local facebook page for one to be used as a Halloween costume. As my marriage turned into something of a nightmare it seemed a rather apt use for it. I spent the cash on my dcs and the grandchildren so everyone was happy!

Brilliant idea. I'd do it with my dress and we're still happily married.

AnkaretLestrange · 30/10/2013 08:33

That is a great idea for a bad taste anniversary party Grin

I think it's a great idea! I'm happily married but I still sold my dress on eBay and this is definitely a better use of it than that!

God yes, use it and have fun with it. It's only a dress. Post pictures.

My wedding dress cost £40. I might start wearing it around the house to freak out the husband.

killpeppa · 30/10/2013 10:08

I did this a month after I got married!

I wasn't going to wear it again and if I ever had a daughter she wouldn't wear a maternity wedding dress with fake tan stains on it!

Howsuper · 30/10/2013 10:14

I think you should do whatever the hell you want with your wedding dress and can't believe some would be offended?!!

Sounds like an ACE costume.

Twilightsparklesmama · 30/10/2013 19:40

I wouldn't expect my DDs to want to wear the dress for their own wedding!!!! However I do think the dress has meaning, and will do to them. lack my daughters weren't born on my wedding day either but the dress is not just a dress its the wedding dress from when their parents got married. Maybe I'm just sentimental!
