was on £27,000 a year just back in 2011?

This is a woman I associate with desperate poverty and yet in the space of one and a half years ? she managed to go from having a prosperous job at a pretty young age to struggling to feed her son?

At the age of 22 she had about a £20,000 net income, which is more than many people can dream about. £27,000 is way more than I've ever earned in my life and I'm over ten years older than her.

Am I being unreasonable to think this detracts a bit from her message? Or am I just living in a different world.

Wasn't she in the fits service and then found it a struggle to find a simkar job to fit around her kids?

We are on 37k and I've just bought her book, and believe me u could cry at how little disposable income we have! Zero benefits, high counc tax and rent, an unexpected dent bill or prescription found send us over the edge

I'm looking forward to receiving the book

Personally I think that her story illustrates perfectly that it can happen to anyone, and that therefore we should
1) stop blaming people for being poor,
2) stop swallowing the government and right wing press bullshit about 'poor choices'
3) stop getting into 'competitive poverty' along the lines of 'well, I've been poor for 10 years so I'm proper poor, me.' Because that kind of divisiveness is what this government wants.

for those on this thread who have swallowed the propaganda. FFS.

Says is all for me. OP YABU.

I'm shocked that people have continued to make snide, nasty comments knowing that Jack has read, is reading and is an actual HUMAN BEING.

Misspixietrix · 06/03/2014 19:55

I'm not shocked at all candy all very well expected at this day and age and with people who jump on the propaganda wagon instead of researching shit for themselves.

Often wondered about the father. Glad Essexdad posted.

Well, if you're reading now Jack, my lovely wife bought me your book yesterday I've already tried 2 of your recipes in addition to those I've been using from the Observer pull out a couple of weeks ago. Dd who is 11 is similarly impressed. She loves your experiemental approach to cooking and your funky look!

Talk about kicking someone who doesn't deserve it. Seriously. Sad

Supercosy, your wife and DD sound fab!
