To think Gordon Ramsey was way out of order?

Grennie · 29/10/2013 13:14

"Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has been bragging about spying on his 15 year-old teenage daughter Megan while she was in her bedroom with her boyfriend, revising.

Obviously viewing it as a laddish joke, Ramsay explained to TV chat host Jonathan Ross that he got his son to put a hidden camera in her room – ostensibly to see if she was revising. “I’ve been a bit naughty over the last couple of weeks because I got Jack a little Go-Pro. One of those little secret cameras.

“So I said to him: ‘Look mate, here’s twenty quid, go and target your big sister’s room and put that camera right at the top left-hand side of the wardrobe.’ “So, Megan, I’d like to talk to you about your revising.” he said.

It’s indicative that the father of four enlisted his only son, who is 13, to take part in this jape – a boy’s joke, lads together, embarrassing their girl and her friend."

Ramsey does have a public image to uphold with his whole angry, sweary persona. The sort of people who eat in his restaurants on a regular basis are probably not the sort of people who watch Jonathan Ross or Ramsey's kitchen disasters. A set menu lunch for two at Royal Hospital Road with minimal drinks will set you back about £150. It was a major treat for us but we could tell that everyone else there was used to spunking that sort of money on a Monday afternoon lunch. I would love to be able to eat there every week because the food is divine.

Rather than putting a video camera in her room why not actually do some parenting instead of doing celeb TV?
Talk to your daughter about the best way to live her life aged 15. Encourage her and be interested in her life rather than bringing her up as a celeb.

KCumberSandwich · 30/10/2013 05:43

and that's why you should read a whole thread before commenting on it Wink

still a bit of an odd joke though

NicknameIncomplete · 30/10/2013 06:43

Iv been reading one of katie prices books & she says that she has cameras everywhere in her house & keeps watch on her kids. Are we all going to blast her for that?

Grennie · 30/10/2013 06:47

If she gives them no privacy, then yes. Although for Harvey it would be different as he is so severely disabled he needs an adult constantly with him.

Let's blast her then. A woman who has admitted in writing that she spies constantly on her children (two of whom do not have disabilities) vs a bloke who made a twatty joke but doesn't actually spy on his daughter. Not a feminist issue now is it? Or is it only 'sick and pervy' when it's a man talking about a daughter?

natwebb79 · 30/10/2013 07:34

Normality - how do you know he's not a great parent? It's winding me up the assumptions people are making about somebody who, fair enough, comes across as a knobber on TV but who they've never met. For all you know he could be a great dad who finds plenty of time to parent well and has a lovely relationship with his kids.

YouStayClassySanDiego · 30/10/2013 07:51

Possibly he is a great parent behind closed doors when the cameras aren't on them, I don't know.

I do however agree with everything that mignonnette wrote about him and couldn't have put it better.

He's repugnant.

ElleBellySkellington · 30/10/2013 08:05

I'm not even surprised. He's a whining, childish, miserable bellend.

AmberLeaf · 30/10/2013 08:12

Grennie I posted a thread about this a couple of weeks ago, got similar responses. A few 'the man is hideous' and lots of 'it was a joke'

My response to that was that regardless of whether he did it or not, he said he did publicly and can you imagine how that made his daughter feel?

Amber - his daughter was in the audience, he may well have discussed what he was going to say with her before the show. Who knows, she might not even be bothered!

natwebb79 · 30/10/2013 08:23

Wonder how many people will take notice of your actual real life experience of him!

AmberLeaf · 30/10/2013 08:25

Who knows, she maybe was bothered by it?

natwebb79 · 30/10/2013 08:41

You'd like to assume so wouldn't you?! If he was that much of a bullying shit dad then why would she choose to sit in the audience watching his interview? This really is a non issue.

AmberLeaf · 30/10/2013 08:43

Really? Because he is her Dad and despite being a shit she probably loves him.

Why are you so keen to assume that it's all jolly japes and he's great?

Maybe he did it, maybe he just joked about doing it. Maybe his daughter was bothered maybe she couldnt care less. We dont know.

Its not something that i would do but i dont see the problem if another parent wants to do it i say let them.

AmberLeaf · 30/10/2013 08:45

If he is so clued up on DV/abuse then he should have known better than to 'joke' about spying on his teenage daughter I would have thought.

YouStayClassySanDiego · 30/10/2013 08:48

Yes he has spoken out about dv.

Whoever thought he would make a good ambassador for that was a bloody idiot considering GR made his name by being a gob shite of a bully and humiliating people on his tv shows..

natwebb79 · 30/10/2013 08:53

Well seeing as you're determined to ignore any good reports and focus on highly edited TV programmes then there's really no point in trying to argue. I'm just glad that some of us can separate media hype from real life.

YouStayClassySanDiego · 30/10/2013 09:02

When he spoke publicly about setting up Marco Pierre White with the 'stolen' reservations book and called the police the report the 'crime', that wasn't edited, that was the real GR.

Calling the Australian tv presenter a pig during a live food show then denying it, it was a 'joke' of course!

He's an arse.

Well - apologies if this rains on anyone's parade - but if KP is watching her kids via webcam, then that is despicable, and a betrayal of trust - and if her kids are old enough to be having sex with their boyfriend/girlfriend, then it is sick and pervy too.

I think I would be almost as hurt if my dad 'joked' in public about filming me with my boyfriend as I would be if he actually did it. I am still baffled as to why that is funny.
