BBC pictures here. Who considers it a good idea, in supposedly the worst storm in 26 years, to:

  • stand on the end of a marina wall with waves washing over it;
  • let their 4 year old play in the foam on the beach;
  • go kite surfing?!

We had the affectionately named 'hurricane bawbag' a few years back x

I lived in Miami from 18-24 and hurricanes meant university was closed and parties were rife. When everyone was panic buying food and water we were panic buying beer and going to the beach for a play in the waves. BUT, I was young and foolish! Some brilliant memories though.

I'd take my kids for a walk on the beach to teach them the dangers. I agree there is a safe way to enjoy a storm which doesn't necessarily mean battening down the hatches and hiding.

Tbf, I'm more explaining the hours leading up to and the few hours after when things are heating up, not after the storm truly hits, that's a scary time. The eye of a hurricane is the eeriest feeling, everything is so still, dark and scary knowing you're about to get hit again but with the storm going in the opposite direction!

There was some young kids running about outside my flat in the rain and wind at 7.15 this morning.
