I do this. Not all the time but I do. I hate it... It makes me slightly hate myself, its the opposite of being humble and just an exercise in narcissism.

My DH is hilarious so I copy his jokes in the hope that they will make other people laugh and therefore like me... But I just end up laughing myself. Its okay if others laugh as well, but if they don't its horrendous.

Please tell me how annoying this is.

Watch Billy Connolly. He laughs at all his own jokes.

Earthymama · 28/10/2013 02:32

I feel your pain.Blush
I do this and then DP says, " look she's laughing at herself, she thinks she's funny!"
And then I laugh even more and can't stop.
Lordy, Lordy how mortifying SadBlushGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

creepypenisreaper · 28/10/2013 02:33

Don't worry, at least you're not my sister. She'll say something (mostly not remotely funny), laugh her head off, then if you don't laugh with her she'll suddenly have a face like thunder then tut.

birdmomma · 28/10/2013 02:36

I like people that laugh at their own jokes. It makes them seem funnier.

creepypenisreaper · 28/10/2013 02:38

birdmomma I beg to differ, I prefer a more deadpan delivery myself.

OverMyDeadQODdy · 28/10/2013 05:43

My sister starts to laugh, silently at first, then this really odd uh uh uh uh uh uh uh noise and THEN tells the joke. Which I'm determined to hate as I'm irritated by having to wait

emmaliz · 28/10/2013 17:23

I don't really tell jokes but if I am relating a funny story I do always laugh myself, as the only reason I am repeating it is because I found it funny to begin with and I get reminded again and laugh

fifi669 · 28/10/2013 17:24

I often laugh at my own jokes. If YOU don't find them funny, then why would you bother telling them?

MuffCakes · 28/10/2013 17:26

I do this to, it would be more odd if you didn't find funny the funny thing your trying to say.

FiscalCliffRocksThisTown · 28/10/2013 17:38

I like people who laugh at their own jokes, I find it genuinely endearing! Especially if the joke is crap.

On the other hand, I hate false modesty a lot.

Fake self deprecating comments make me stabby.

I would probably really like you OP :)

Buddhagirl · 28/10/2013 19:50

Awesome!! You have made me happy :)

I make jokes about what I'm watching on TV then laugh like a hyena ag myself. I'm alone every night.

I have been known to share said loner jokes by text.

I think I am hilarious

AchyFox · 28/10/2013 19:59

Q: Why don't Buddhists vacuum in the corners?

A: Because they have no attachments.

runningonwillpower · 28/10/2013 20:00

Ah Buddhagirl, I feel your pain.

I live with a very witty man. My personal challenge is to make HIM laugh. Like really laugh.

Don't be a pale shadow, take him on. Even if you only outwit him occasionally, it's great when you do.

OnIlkelyMoorBahtat · 29/10/2013 11:54

I laugh at my own jokes - because I am hilarious, naturally Smile - so OP if someone points it out to you again do what I do & say to them "Well, to quote Edmund Blackadder, who am I to fly in the face of public opinion?" Grin

And anyway, one of life's great pleasures is seeing your friends convulsed with laughter even if it's at their own jokes, so don't you stop!

doorbellringer · 29/10/2013 12:47

I do this too. Only because I'm hysterically funny mind you Wink. As they say: laughter is contagious. Keep on doing it I'm sure your friends find it endearing!

GruffBillyGoat · 31/10/2013 11:02

If I didn't laugh at my own jokes then how would DP know it was meant to be a joke and give me a pity laugh?

I need my pity laughs otherwise I would have nothing.
