to write / email to the police about their report (sensitive, may trigger)

In the last few days a local woman was raped, and the police have put out an appeal for witnesses or information.

The report online says the woman was 'not physically hurt'.

It probably means that she was not assaulted or injured in any other way but I think it could be worded much better.

AIBU? And if I'm not how would you write the email?

Yanbu
I would word it like this.
"To suggest that a woman can be raped and yet 'not physically hurt' is offensive, undermining and down right ridiculous. There can be few greater physical hurts than suffering the horror of rape.
Please amend your report and think carefully about how you word such things in the future.
Regards Wearesix"

Also can you post a link. Others might like to drop them a line too. I'm sure hey meant no harm of course but it really isn't on is it.

YANBU, and what a ridiculous thing for them to say.

TheGhostsAndGhoulsOfHitchhikin · 27/10/2013 20:20

That is awful! I am not good with words but YES write the email, I'm sure there will be many with replies for you!

quoteunquote · 27/10/2013 20:22

send the email, and one to chief commissioner, asking how it is possible to rape without hurting.

Onesleeptillwembley · 27/10/2013 20:23

Actually I see it the other way - they didn't say she wasn't hurt, they said not physically, therefore distinguishing between physically and mentally/emotionally.

creepypenisreaper · 27/10/2013 20:25

I get that she was obviously hurt emotionally, and that she was hurt physically at the time of the act, but why is this a bad thing to say if she has no lasting injuries? Would that not just be a fact? I'm not being provocative, I really am confused and am willing to be corrected.

CailinDana · 27/10/2013 20:34

What on earth could be the purpose of saying she was "not physically hurt"? As you say it's probably intended to mean that she wasn't beaten but why is that even relevant? Rape and physical assault are two different crimes - would they report that "a man was mugged but his car isn't damaged"?

WeAreSix · 27/10/2013 20:36

The report has now changed online. Maybe someone got there before me!

It now gives quotes from the Detective and says she was "severely shocked and distressed".

I'm going to email them anyway as I know several friends had already seen it. It needed to be better worded and more sensitive IMO.
